Delete Your Comments On Other's Projects

That would be cool if you could delete comments you made on other people's projects, because sometimes you make comments that sound really lame because you didn't read the project notes very well, or if you said something really harsh. I know you can just reply, but I think it would be easier if you could delete them.

Bye!

This has been suggested a number of times in the past, and I was shocked when I saw the Scratch website didn't already have this! I support 100.1%

Re: Delete Your Comments On Other's Projects

I support this too. I have some n00by comments from when I first joined that I'd rather have deleted than stay.

Off topic: Well, I support 9001%! What about that?

Re: Delete Your Comments On Other's Projects

Ah - the reason we can't do this is that Scratch relies on an open security model. Everyone can see everyone else's comments. If we allowed people to delete their comments directly after posting them, then it would be possible to have private conversations by commenting when one person was on, and then deleting the comment directly after they read it (before anyone else might have the chance to flag it). Unfortunately, it's likely some people would use this power to cyberbully.

So - sorry guys, I can see that this would be nice, but its just not practical.

But even if you have old noobish comments that are still visible, I think it's likely that people will understand and forgive you. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Re: Delete Your Comments On Other's Projects

Oh, I see now! There's lots of reasoning, when you think about it  smile

However, if it's meant to be completely open, then why are we still allowed to delete our forum posts?

This is actually quite easy with what is currently given anyways, if not easier than the method you suggested, simply by posting on old projects to exchange the messages, and once you receive the message you can delete it and post on one of theirs.

I can understand the want to limit private messages, but not being able to delete your own comments is going a bit far. After all, way back when we could, and I don't recall anything bad happening from that...
