Scratch for iphone! (very beta)

I have taken iSqueak (a homebrew squeak vm for iphone) and tweaked scratch to run in it! There is no interaction, but it will play animations. Also it is Scratch 1.2.1, so it will only run projects from that. And another problem is it will only play files very small in size, due to the low memory.

If you have a jailbroken iphone 3gs/4, or ipad. I would love for somebody to test it on the faster processors, and feel free to email me for the program.

Also, if you obtain it, you need to use SCP to transfer "SqueakNoOGLIPhone" to your /Applications folder. expect me to post a video or something soon  smile

Re: Scratch for iphone! (very beta)

Actually, a full Scratch app was just submitted to the App Store - although from what I understand you can only view projects.

Not any more, Apple banned it because they can't check Scratch projects like they can with real apps.

And like I said, this is a very early version, so if any smalltalk prodigies would like to come along and fix something...

Well what did you expect, it was apple!
And in theory, my program could have a scaled down editor, you would just have to play round with ScratchFrame and everything.

It was resubmitted a few days ago - I posted about it in the iPhone thread in Announcements.

Re: Scratch for iphone! (very beta)

I just fixed my version a bit: Now It doesn't go black before it starts and you can load any project from 1.2.1 ( that doesn't need input )

But you need to remake the .image file to load a project.

Re: Scratch for iphone! (very beta)

I actually think that with the much furthered power of the iPad when compared to other iDevices, I think that a full-fledged version of Scratch might just be possible. That is, if Squeak were available on the iPad.

Of course, with the full rewrite of Scratch in Flash (a much more "normal" programming language), it may be possible to much more easily port to other devices, despite Flash not being an open language.

Yeah, but anything that runs full-fledged Scratch on the iPhone is going to be really slow.

Besides, doesn't iSqueak only work with jailbroken iDevices?

I don't know  tongue . Anyways, there's no reason for people not to jailbreak- it's easy, and you can add bunches of nice stuff to teh iPhone OS.

How do you jailbreak the iPhone or iPod?

Search up spirtjb.com on google download that cydia should popup and its untetherd so ipod restat will not delete.

P.S. don't send to apple without removing cydia and all its apps or they will be mad.
