Y'know, I've been thinkin' for awhile now - Isn't kinda unlikely that a mod will notice you've been good randomly? I suggest an Approve Me topic, pinned in New Users or another place where the new users can post. That way, it'll be easier for mods to see that you haven't been trying to plot a murder or something like that. Of course, it won't block out all evil, but then again, you can't block out all evil. It'll make it easier for people to be approved. Also, people who post in it must have been on the forums for a certain amount of time to be approved.

How do you mean "approved?" We don't approve users... We just get a general sense of who's been naughty and who's been nice
I think he means a topic for new scratchers to request to become members?

Oh, I see - New Scratchers become Members after a certain period of time - not when we think they're ready.
I see they don't, unless the wait is over 2 months, and by that time, the new members will probably leave. It's not a well thought out system, I would think

The "New Scratcher" plan has only been in effect for a month - be patient.

Aren't there about 30 New Forumers per day? I wonder how they'll make the transition work..

I think I read somewhere that the forums will do it and not the moderators - so the moderators aren't going to have to track down every New Scratcher.

So that's what the Scratch Team or part of it is working on now instead of the newer version of Scratch? I don't really think the forums are capable of doing that automatically though.

I'm sure they could do both the forums and program easily if they tried.
I think the forums will be doing it instead, though; there are so many new users joining the forums...

Well that's the plan, otherwise they didn't do anything with the new scratchers for the month that it's been implemented.

At least it's not as extreme as his other posts...actually, this is a good suggestion! I wonder what it's like to be a New Scratcher? I've never been one myself, since I only discovered the forums after about 3 months(waaa)

His other suggestions? I saw the Paying to use the Scratch Website one, but what was the other one?

coolstuff is right, this feature is not really needed. There would be a chance it could also cause hurt feelings or flaming (if it really got wild).

What exactly do you mean if it got wild?

Me neither! My first forum post was 6 months ago, and I had already been a member since August '09!

Its not about if you've been "good" or "bad" is when you become a member, its simply a set amount of time before you make the jump from "New Scratcher" to "Scratcher". 'Nuff Said.

Yep, that's it exactly
With time, "New Scratchers" do become "Scratchers" without hesitation (unless they are banned).

How exactly could this idea get 'really wild'?

People could get offended when others get upgraded and some are declined. The aim of Scratch is to provide equality among all users - so the majority of them are treated to the same experience (the notable exceptions being moderators and blocks).

So - instead of creating a new account, why don't you ask the Scratch Team to unban your first account? If we feel like we can trust you, we'll be happy to unban. But making additional accounts doesn't help your case....
