Corrupted Sound

While I was making a Hamstermon (Yes, I'm in the Hamstermon RPG!) project called "Wierd phone call", it took to me 6 times to get the sound right because whenever I played back the recording on Scratch for the first 5 tries, the sound got sort of fuzzy and crackly in the middle of the recording. I was at a reccomended length away from the built-in microphone on my laptop, and I have good system memory. Why did this happen? What should I do to prevent corrupted sound the next time I record my voice?

Re: Corrupted Sound

It's nothing to do with your system. Scratch just turns .wav files into garbage. Uploading it may fix it, or it may not

The sound was recorded on Scratch, not on Sound Recorder. I still don't know why it happened.

It happened because of Scratch
You may have used the built-in recorder, but it's still a .wav file

I hope the sound corruption bug gets fixed.  But somehow, the 6th time I tried recording it,  it didn't get corrupted. Wierd.

I hope Scratch 2.0 doesn't turn .wav files into junk like BladeEdge said.

From what I understand, Flash is a lot less arbitrary than Squeak to write in... Which probably means a better-quality programming language!

I still need answers on how to prevent it. Mods, don't close this until the problem is solved completely! It's still not completely solved!

Yeah, it was a .wav file. You are right, Blade-Edge.

There isn't really a way. Hopefully, 2.0 won't have this.

Re: Corrupted Sound

Scratch has always had a very bad sound recorder, and usually, destroys them.  yikes
When recording, I use a free and simple program called Audacity. You can download it here. If you have a Windows computer, most of them (as far as I know) have a program called 'Sound Recorder'. I have WinXP, and I found the program in Start+All Programs+Accessories+Entertainment, and it was in that file. Hope this helps your out!  wink

The strange thing is that ever since the corrupted sound problem, Scratch hasn't corrupted any sound since. Wierd.

As long as I can open 1.x-created files, I'm good.

I would imagine you could - I doubt they'd change even that.

Even so, they will probably still offer support for older versions, as they already do for older computers which may not be able to run 2.0.

From what I understand, WindozeNT was talking about versions of Scratch, not versions of Windows - Windows 1.x would be from the 80s!
