Ok I noticed that there are a lot of topics that don't receive reply's and just take up space, if i dont get reply's on my topic i usually try and delete them but it takes a while, Maybe there can be an automatic thing where it gets rid of topics that haven't received reply's in a week

Some topics don't need replies to be useful. They simply provide information that may (or may not) be useful to others who simply read the topic.
Deleting topics that don't receive replies would emphasize the idea that the forums are chat rooms instead of vehicles for disseminating useful information.

I remeber on one forum that I looked at but never actually posted on, there was a 50 page limit. You could make all the threads you want and there were about the same amount here but on page 51, they got deleted. It really was a matter of who could bump there threads and which got the most popularity. If scratch every gets that popular it could be a good Idea. Also, The threads them selves had a 2000 post limit.

I agree with dbal. I think forum threads, for the most part, should not be deleted.
The forums are a big part of the collective intelligence of our community. There is a lot of knowledge here that can be useful to everyone. Even just the fact that someone has asked a question is very valuable information.

some people simply use their forums for updates. And maybe, say they're on a vacation for a week. They can't update that thread. And thus, their long typing experience is lost.
