British idiot numero deux (me) also wants to know ^^ I imagine that the teams are given a specific theme to make a project with (eg - platformer, racing, etc), then they're judged by someone who isn't biased to any team.
I could be wrong, though - I had only just got my account this time last year, and don't really recall it very well (if at all).
