Well, I feel like posting my idea anyway....

First, you create a massive map (or a few, and create a spreadsheet/grid or something outside of the game), and some country founders come along. I'm going to use FMT, RHY, JSM (well me, katana but whatever), and blade for the example. When founding a country...

First, you must create a flag/banner or something out of blocks so that it's clear that you have claimed an area. RHY creates a bob the sea urchin "flag". FMT creates that thing that he said would make you [removed] bricks as his flag. Blade creates erm.... I dunno whatever blade would create. And JSM creates a plain black flag (because I'm currently out of ideas  ). This flag is where your country's "capital city" will be, so start building! I'll create a thread for all of the information here...
You can build...
houses for citizens
hotels & sites for tourists
mines for mining
rivers for water
etc. (for the threads, every country has a post made by the founder, and it is the founder's responsibility to update information). You can think about the buying and selling system inside your country, after all it's yours!

Now that you've founded your nation, you may form alliances with others. You could even merge and become co-leaders (or overthrow their government  ). Please note that you may NOT destroy land without permission, people worked hard making the stuff.
For war, I have a few ideas...
1. The attacking nation tries to find the defending nation, who hides. No building/destroying allowed. Once every person in the defending nation is found, the attacker has won. But if the attacker takes more than 5 minutes (or some other time), defender wins and attacker must give a small amount of land.
2. Role-playing war. Just RP and decide.
3. There's a small plot of land, if attacker can dig it down to the bottom (where you can't dig anymore), they win, if the defender can keep building it up, they win (no flying, decide time limit before start)

Example 1:
JSM and RHY are allies
FMT and blade are allies
Side one attacks side two.
JSM and RHY's citizens move to his secret underground base.
FMT and blade fail to find him. JSM wins, and FMT gives up some land.

In this game, land is wealth (along with how epic your land looks)! So if an attacker/defender loses, they must pay some land to the winner. This way, you can conquer land by attacking enough.

Some people may choose to be part of countries. They are wandering tourists (or mysterious travelers, it's your choice) until the wish to be part of a country. They they're citizens. CItizens have rights within the country, and are part of attacks/defenses. Citizens can also buy land from the country leader.

Buy the game, then when multiplayer infdev and indev comes out, you can craft things and sellthem to other people, create cities, almost anything! Minecraft is half-priced till the beta, hurry and buy it!
