We've been trying a new technique to deal with the growth of stickies in All About Scratch.
Basically, we created a single sticky topic called the index topic. It contains links and a brief summary of all the topics in the forum that were stickied before. Check it out and see what you think! The index topic is the only sticky...

Everyone can still find the important topics, but they don't take up a lot of space at the top anymore. When Scratchers post in the topics, they rise to the top again like the rest, so it's a little easier to see when a thread becomes active again.
What do you think - shall we try it in Advanced Topics?

hmm... I think it might clear things up, but at the same time, people are less likely to visit them because they can't see when new ones are added.... I'm not sure either way
they both have their advantages. Maybe see how well it goes in the all about scratch section first?

I say no, because I keep seeing people ask questions answered in stickied threads.

The All About Scratch Index has been there for well over a month, I think

Yep, it's a trade off, definitely. But leaving the threads stickied as they are doesn't really guarantee that people will read 'em.... so it seems like we might as well have the less cluttered look? It's an advantage for people who have been in advanced a long time and already know all the stickies.
That and the stickies rise up everytime they get a new post...

I hope you STICK to your plan.

That was a bad pun. (Aren't all puns bad?)

Sticky.
Heh. Heh.
I snickered when I saw the title.
STICKY... >.<
But, yeah, this index topic is great, it's like instead of having a messy pile of papers, they're all put and organized and indexed ( hence the "index" topic ) in a drawer.
Anywho, my vote goes for this.
Great idea.

You know what? Now that I look at it......this isn't such a bad idea.

Why don't you try it in New Scratch Members? It has more stickies that Advanced Topics and Show and Tell...
Or should we not do it there because it might confuse new members?

I don't really like the idea; I see many more active stickies than active ITopics, and that would reduce the amount of help and discussion...
I'm not just saying that because I'm disappointed with losing a sticky.

Good idea - we still need some more feedback before we can make these changes take effect. From what I'm understanding, the feedback is moderately positive.
Please, speak now or forever hold your peace! (Just kidding

Yet again we need to bump it up!
Let's get bumping!
It needs to bump itself to the top!
I'm so bumping!
Wow, so many puns, such little bump!
Seriously I'm obsessed with the word bump!
BUMP!!

Hey! Stop yer bumping!

But if the only stickied topic was the ITopic with the stickies in it, there would be no stickies that could be more active than it because it is the only sticky.

That's not what I meant - I wasn't worried about stickies and ITopics being right next to each other... I meant that easy to view stickies seemed to get more responses than threads inside the multistickies. ^_^
But more of them seem to be active, so I support now!

I think reducing stickies would help.
But what I really want is a watchlist, so at the top of my Advanced Topics page would be those topics that are on my watchlist and have new posts since I last read them. The new posts part is already done; is there a way to make a watchlist?

Not exactly what you wanted, but: I think there used to be a way of subscribing to individual topics, but it was removed for some reason. I think it was removed for putting excess strain on the server, but I'm not sure... Perhaps bookmarking them in your browser would work - I can't think of any other "easy access" solution right now.

I like this idea.
