I think you're thinking about the World Cup in 2006, which was hosted by Germany, but Italy won that one.

Why did Argentina lose:
-They gave all hope after the 2nd goal
-The Romero,Messi & Tevez did not play as well as they did the last few times!

You mean the UEFA European Football Championship?
That one is also played every 4th year, but not the same years as FIFA WC.

Football is not as big in Poland as it is in Germany so it doesn't surprise me why they are in Germany's team.
