I suggest that we make a system like many other user websites have that allows others to see the "Rank" of users. A way I think that we could do that is if for every view we got or love it that we have, etc, we could have like an experience point toward a new level. I don't know what kind of ranks there would be... maybe something such as number levels (1,2,3,4,5...) stones (sandstone,quartz,onyx,diamond,platinum,gold...) colors (black,white,yellow,brown,purple,blue,yellow...)

Great idea! I just fear that some people might get upset if they have a lower rank than others...

And it also might get in the way of the simplicity of this website - one of the great things about it is that there are so few bells and whistles!

I don't really think this would work too well.

New people would get upset and put off by the fact they have a low rank, people will show off their ranks and make people annoyed.
People with high ranks would stick their and get all their projects viewed and loved while even if a newer scratcher has better projects only a few people see them as they are all busy viewing the already popular people.

I think projects that aren't viewed allot need some way of getting them viewed, not attention directed away from them and into an already viewed loads project.

The New scratchers WOULD be angry, colour, but if they plan on staying, the ranks would be motivation to put out good projects so that they could rank up and get better.

It would work both ways, like most things, but I don't really think this would be a good idea.Unless for the first few weeks that the user is online, that they're un-ranked and then they would discover the rank after, say, 2 weeks.

Whoa - things would get all competive, "I'm higher than you!", cheating (with new accounts, spam comments, etc.), flames about ranks - I don't think it's a very good idea. sad

Because if we had rankings it would be allot easier to show off, they would have more of a reason to do so and most people would prefer "Not having as many likes on their project" than being called "A low rank newbie" as soon as they join.

Your post count is not really anything to show off, just a number to show how active you are on the forums.

Also, some users may make other accounts to love-it and view their projects (which already happens) and get higher ranks unfairly. So I don't think this is a good idea.

The reason this would not work is the exact reason that ratings on scratch projects would not work. I'm not going to say it, just because I would be repeating what a lot of other people have already said.

I presonally like the ranking system, but not like this at all. Maybe if it was something like Levels for post counts. Members Level 1 with 0 - 40 posts, Members Level 50 for 6500 - 7200 or something.

I like the post counts! It helps me see how I am doing as a community member.

(Post count != usefulness to community, but it lets me know quantitatively how much I have contributed.)

but can we rank em on how long they are here

ranks can be like

1. New scratcher
2. Scratcher ( Somewhat used to scratcher)
3. Old member (people like hmm who are for long hmm me !)
4. Good Scratcher : ( Guyz like 08jackt , jonathan etc)
5. Great Scratcher ( For guyz like Rhy and archmage)

These can be based on algorithms like

Rank Point = Sum(Rankpoint_allprojects)+Time_spent_here;

define Rankpoint_AllProjects = ( no of loveits/no of views ) * 100% //% of ur projects being loved ..

that will enhance the competition and make em do b8r

also it will give all the scratchers an idea of what are they and they can actually go and ask for help from the good ones (: watcha say?

It would require a bit of change to the ScratchR so that it totals up your love its on all your projects, but after that its easy going.
