The point of the joke is to be funny to the teller because it makes no sense and is funny to see the victim to try to understand it.

There is absolutely no difference between the quality of the year groups. Two years from now, the 09ers and 10ers we have now will be saying the exact same thing you are about the 11ers and 12ers. And two years later from then, the 11ers and 12ers will be complaining about their own newbie groups.

Nobody seems to realize that when they joined, they themselves were most likely just as bad, if not worse, as the newbies they complain about. But it's easy to say "the people who joined in x year suck" and act like you're part of some elite club for joining at a certain period of time, and hard to take off the nostalgia goggles and reflect on exactly how good things actually were.

You'll probably find that overall, nothing's really changed in terms of the community. There was always drama, there were always a few annoying people, there were always meaningless fads, there was always spam. It's just that the community grew bigger, so people actually started to notice.

(In terms of the type of projects that Scratch recieves, though...that's a change I could talk about. But I'm biased.)

How come whenever i see a post by Jonathanpb it is immediatly followed by a post from chrishcb or vica versa?
