Yep. So basically, I'm a blender nut. And I like doing animations. So I decided to make a render farm. So far i'ts been tricky. Like, the cheapest motherboards and CPUs i could find were $40 apiece. Now, that sounds cheap, but when you add up a bunch of them, it gets expensive. Once the hardware gods have blessed me with what I need, I'll load them up with Ubuntu server edition. I'm planning on about 6 units. (A motherboard and CPU + other basic components.) So, does any one have any suggestions? Because I'm new to this thing. Oh, one last thing, the CPUs do 2.7 GHz.

Cool. What are you rendering?
I rendered an animation at home once, but it took almost 30 hours and it was around 2-4 minutes.

Wow, that sounds awesome!
You should hook up SETI at home, or one of those cool screensavers that does shared calculations, so they can run in between renderings. Sounds super cool though.
I wonder what kind of wattage you'll burn when rendering?

A ton! Lol.
Actually, I'll start looking up power supplies. A few people have tried this kind of thing before, and they get some were around 600 watts. In the end I'll probably use a separate outlet for each power supply instead of putting the whole thing in a surge protector and then blowing our fusebox.

Update: Wrestling with a five year old computer, trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 and keep it running at the same time. If I can get it working, I'll start testing software on it. Oh, and BTW, soon I'll be taking Python classes!
