I loved the old mega man games.
I could do that but first I want to see if anyone has any other ideas they want to share.

Try making kid icarus. It is sort of gimmicky in the respect that it is a vertical scroller, and yet if you are seemingly trapped, walking off to the other side places you on the other side of the screen, away from the danger and free to move as you please. If your game gets to onemorelevel, tell me so I can play. I am nearly as addicted to onemorelevel as I am to scratch.

That game frustrates me :S
Also, the game will have original characters only just to let you know.
If you want you can play kid icarus @ http://www.everyvideogame.com/arcade.php?mode=play&g=492

lol I can only make it past a few levels before I give up. How about Croc? It was a game for gameboy color that never really took off. It was a primarily horizontal scroller, but it had some vertical motion as well. I beat it after several months of hard practice.

I could make a platformer, but still it would have original characters only.

ok, then how about a music based game? The creator of onemorelevel has quite a few of those.

I dunno about that. It takes a while to sync all of the arrows and stuff to the music.

Which version of flash are you using, and how much did it cost? I REALLY want flash badly.

S65 has a good song that has potential, and even though it might take a while to make, a possible game could involve musical notes falling from the top of the play field in time with the music, and you have to avoid all of them. The longer you play, the more the tempo quickens.

I am using flash 8 and coding in actionscript 2. I don't know how much it cost because my dad got it from his work. It's quite a bit though, but the educational version is cheaper.

okay, but I don't think money is much of a problem. I have a bit of money that I have permission to spend, and I am just thinking of possible ways to put it to good use. Is the syntax used in coding flash confusing? This is the only language I program in.

The final level was a bit of a let down, cause I beat it on my first try. They should have made baron dante harder................

Actionscript 2 is one of the most basic languages you can learn. The syntax is fairly simple.
If you want to try the program there is a 30 day free trial available at http://www.click-now.net/download/Macromedia_Flash.htm

Oh yeah, just a question; once development actually gets underway, how will it be conducted? Will you e-mail me or the sprite artist saying "I want this" (you're making MyRedNeptune the sprite artist, right?), or will there be some sort of password-protected invisionFree board set up?

That is an older version of flash and that version is no longer on the official site.
Also, downloads of trials from the official site have been discontinued until July 1.

Alright, well, do you have squeak? If everybody working on this got squeak they could use the listener, fridge, and all the other communications functions to actually talk. Verbally and non verbally. Can I help you with your game? I have blender and know how to use it. Kinda. I can make simple 3d shapes, scenes, color them and render them. By the way, I came up with a good music game idea. You are in a room, you can see a bird's eye view, and fire is erupting from the walls and floor in time to the music, it is controlled with the arrow keys. For music, just go to youtube, type in "techno music", find a good song, copy and paste that url, go to google, type in media converter, click the first thing, and save the song. The site extracts the song for you.

I don't think getting this squeak program will really help that much. Email is just fine for communication.
As for the game, at this point I am probably going to make a beat em up game like river city ransom or a platforming shooter game like mega man.
If any one else has any ideas please post them

It's cool that you want to learn flash action script. If you want I can make a forum post that teaches the basics of flash game creation.
