Who would just post a list of swear words...
Trolls.
In case you haven't heard of the incident which happened just about a few weeks ago on the forums - there were some massive trolls posting terrible threads with just links to bad websites.
People do that, and you have to be safe and aware.

The-Whiz and Spaghetticat have both had their arguments and reasons - but I personally prefer to go back to what Spaghetticat said first:
This website WAS made for kids - you have to understand that. Scratch is a programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab as a research project so younger kids don't have to just play games and view media, but also create their own games and media. You really have to understand the history of Scratch, and know the people to understand that.
Secondly, there ARE many programming sites other than scratch - you just haven't explored the internet far enough. For example, there's newgrounds.
I respect your opinions right now as your still a newbie, but hopefully in your further Scratch experience you will understand this.*twitch*Please dont inslut me im not a newbie
I just minorly called you a newbie as a shortened version as 'new user" - not something insulting like "n00b" or something. Chill.
And you slightly are a new user, as you've only been on Scratch for roughly 3 months. Although it's some basic experience, you still have long ways to go!(you're looking at a Scratcher with 3 yrs expeirence)

OK....ok
I have been on scratch for a year anylizing it making stuff but not posting or joining((my mom said i wasnt mature enough to join).Still just because im new dosnt mean im not as knowledgeable as the next guy.

There might be a comedy video that says a bad word. The younger kids don't know that they shouldn't repeat it, but the older kids do. The older kids are more mature and can handle more mature things.
if you know not to repeat it, why would you want the change in the first place?
I think this pretty much ends the discussion. I'm good at debates.
@spaghetticat: you shouldn't bump this, it gained 3 pages in one day.

All I hear is people saying to "deal with it" and let people have Freedom of Speech.
First of all, by agreeing to the Terms of Use, you have agreed to follow the rules provided, and so in no way can the Scratch website be held accountable for taking away civil rights. If you want to make animations and such about inappropriate things, there are plenty of other websites with free software that allow it.
Second, when you say "deal with it", you expect use to just open our safe website into the flames of arguments, inappropriateness, trolls, and spam. Trolls would haunt everyone and be allowed, people would spam all over the place, and so on, because we had to "deal with it." There are rules to this website, so "deal with it".

I know I agreed to terms of use, I'm just saying the rules could be a bit less strict.

I dont agree with your idea for the filters. If the terms were different providing that OLDER kids, young teens, and adults were mainly in the website I might have agreed. But if that were to happen *freedom of speech* would go out of control.Including that younger kids would be exposed to things that shouldn't cross their minds at the age of 7-and older.Flagging is neccessary for a website like scratch. With and estimation I would have to say 1/4 of scratch is made up entirely of inappropriate things that haven't been flagged, inaproppriate names, and inappropriate comments.

The whiz is right. It's not like you have to use scratch, where as you do need to go to school. Also, you keep saying you're not the minority on this topic, but so far only one or two people have sided with you and no one on the scratch team is speaking against you. Those in charge aren't speaking up because we're agreeing with them and speaking for them. In other words, you are the minority on this topic. By the way, I'm 15 and disagree with you, so stop talking like anyone who's your age and up agrees with you.
As a guy of 14, I agree.
I also agree, but I'm only a girl of 12!
Sanddude, Spagetticat (Who I believe to be a seperate account of sanddudes),
If you guys ant to curse, and have inappropreit content, fine. Take it somewhere else. Scratch was created to be a nice, Friendly for all-ages site. If this were to happen, then all heck would break loos, trolls, spammers, etc. would flood this site, and it will be a complete wreck. Even a little less restriction would be enough: They would still make scratch a horrible site. It would simply be a wasteland of... mleh.
I am going to ask the question: Is it better for older kids to view younger kid stuff, or for younger kids to view mature stuff, and I mean mature like "rated M."
As someone else who's user I have forgotton said: The students at MI can be spending their time studying, or something. They don't HAVE t be doing this: Why are you trying to make them change the rules? They have enough to worry about.
I apologize for any and all spelling errors in this post.
Thank you for our time,

Having most people agree with one side of an argument shouldn't end it.Thats how most of the debates I've heard of or seen have ended. They take a vote and the side with the most votes wins, this wasn't techincaly like that, but taking a look at the odds (100 to 8), its not likely to get very far.
You could try convincing the remaining 8.
Or maybe the 8 could try convincing the pro-censorship people who are "Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I heard one bad word."

I completely disagree with you, sanddude. This is a site for kids that parents trust. Imagine what would happen if the site stopped censoring- there would be a huge increase in cursing and violence, parents would find out, and many kids would no longer be allowed to use Scratch.
By the way, I'm not being overly sensitive. I am in high school- if I freaked out every time I heard a curse word, I would be permanently freaked out. I'm thinking of the younger kids and their parents, as well as the future of Scratch.

Here's the way i see it mild bad language like [removed] and [removed] shouldn't be deleted. Moderate bad language and high bad language should delete the project. Blood and violence should NOT delete the project. Unless it shows REAL pictures of disturbing things. But if it's animated blood, the project shouldn't be deleted. Any nudity should straight away be deleted.

even games like call of duty have missions that you can skip... because their offensive, maybe you can view a project if over the age of 18 if its sensered ? ONLY if you want, it will have to have a warning...

Warnings don't always work. People could think they could take it, but maybe they couldn't. And people can lie about their age.

Call of duty has a mission that you can skip because it's racist. Not because it's very bloody or has bad language.
