Hi. I'll be posting my new story "Shrunk!" here. Feel free to post suggestions for the next one.
Intro
It was another boring day of school. And I just hate math. I'd better start with my name. My name is (drum roll) Frederic Callisto (boo!) but my parents and friends just call me Fred. I have no brothers or sisters, so my life is pretty boring. All I really do each day is eat breakfast, go to school, have lunch, come back, have dinner, go to bed. What I do in school is math, then English, social studies or geography, and science.
But this day is different. You can't guess what I have been working on for the past month. I have been trying to put together a time machine. Uh huh. I have a secret hideout in the garage where I put all sorts of stuff: Car parts, washing machine parts, alluminum foil, plastic junk, etc. But most importantly, the Tryphonite Crystals! Yeah, they're what do all the work. My plan was basic: Go to school, zap into the future 7 hours after school is over, and come home. I'm not sure what would go on between those times, but over the course of 70 years of my life, it would probably be 77 years in real time. I didn't care. Live long and prosper, anyway.
Let's start.
Chapter 1
"Frederic?"
I shook my head a few times and rubbed my eyes like mad. "Huh? Wha-?"
Oh no! I fell asleep in class! AND IT WAS MATH CLASS!!!!! AAAAAAAAHH!!!!
I woke up with a start.
"Beep beep! Beep beep!" My alarm clock beeped like mad. I banged a fist on it and it fell apart. Whoops.
I looked around. "Phew. Just a bad dream." I thought.
I looked at my smashed alarm clock. Springs hung loose from it. "Just what I need." I said out loud. "I don't need to worry about going to school late. Soon I won't be in school." I laughed for a few seconds. I looked at the partly destroyed screen on the clock. 6:30 it read. Perfect. An hour and a half left till school.
I grabbed my alarm clock and slipped into my crocks. Uh, yes, I sleep in my cloths. I crept downstairs and fixed myself some cereal. Cold cereal with colder milk. Yum?
After I finished my breakfast, I ran into the garage and pulled down the ladder leading to my secret area. I climbed up and entered a cluttered room full of junk. The only light came from a small window fogged up with dew. I dismantled my alarm clock and set the display next to a small cell-phone sized device. I worked for an hour covering the empty areas with plastic panels so that it wouldn't fall apart. I left one small rectangular area for the display. I already had all the programming programmed into the device. I slid in two AA batteries into the back and slid the Tryphonite crystals into a small notch, and then covered it with plastic. I pressed the buttons of a calculator that where attached to my device. I had to set the current time (7:45) and the date I was going to (7:47) . Done. I turned on a video camera in a corner so that I could see what happened. Then I pressed the green button. I felt a slight shock. I was expecting it. It had come from the Tryphonite crystals. I also knew that the larger the distance through time you traveled, the larger the shock would be. Well, nothing really happened. I looked into the video camera and started to turn it on. I saw myself acting normally for about 2 minutes when suddenly I jolted. I had returned. Well, I had to do a little more research on my device before I would use it. I glanced at my watch. 7:55. OH NO!
I had a choice. Use the device, or not. I took a quick decision. I stuffed it in my pants pocket and ran out the door.
Chapter 2
I ran into school just as the bell rang. I slid into my classroom and fell on the floor. I grunted and felt for the device. It was still in my pocket. I got up and noticed everybody laughing at me. I grinned, not because of them, but because of what I was planning. I walked over to a corner of the class room and inserted all the information.
"Hey, Fred," said one of my classmates Dave. "Aren't you a little shorter than usual?"
I ignored him.
I heard the teacher walking in. I ran into my seat and set the timer on 1 minute delay. The teacher stepped into the classroom. He sniffed the air and stared at each of us in turn. I had been counting the seconds. 3,4,5,6,7,...
"Good morning class." he said.
"Good - 9 - morning - 10 - teach - 11 - er." I said with great trouble.
"Is there something wrong, Frederic?" the teacher said, looking me straight in the eye.
"Uh, - 13 - no sir." I said.
He looked at me for a few seconds.
16, 17,.... 25, 26,........... 54, 55, 56,......
My heart beat like mad. 57, 58, 59,-
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzppppppppppppppppppppppppp!!!!!
"Aaaaaaaaaahh!" I gasped. I couldn't move for a few seconds. I remembered putting the destination date a few minutes after class, so that's why I didn't hear anything. Then I fell. Wood. Hard wood. Like on a desk chair. I got up painfully. My shirt was blackened and I reached around for my device. It was still there. I then looked at my surroundings. I gasped. Thousands of feet high poles with giant platforms on them. I looked straight up. Miles up from where I was was what looked a ceiling. Then I recalled what Dave had said to me. A sudden burst of memories overflowed my mind. I remembered being in school, lunch break, recess, everything that happened in the past 7 hours. So my device sort of didn't keep away the happenings between now and then. But I had a new problem now.
