A row for people to post their projects

I feel that the scratch website should have a row for people to post their projects. To prevent them from posting their projects too often, there should be a limit for 1 project per day. After they posted their project once, that certain project can not be posted on that row again. In this way, new scratchers can feature their projects. Please post how you feel about this suggestion.

Re: A row for people to post their projects

How large would the row be? Almost every user wants to be famous, so projects would probably only stay up for a minute or so before being bumped off with more projects...  hmm

Re: A row for people to post their projects

I agree!

I suggested something similar.

The idea started as a place for people to feature one of their project and request help/attention... it would show on the front page, but also when you submit to this list/gallery, you are taken to this gallery and you're encouraged to help others while you wait for others to help you...

so this becomes a list of projects that would like help and attention now, helping each other.

Then it evolved into also having a signature on your comments: a link to the project you would like help/attention on.
As you leave useful comments, people will see that you have a project that wants attention, and would be more likely to help in return.

How does that sound?

I think this idea is more about getting some help and attention without having to become famous or spamming the site.

That's ok, especially with the signatures, as you go in and help people in this list, the project owner and other people browsing projects that need help, will see the helpful comments you leave, and see your plea for help as a link to your project, if they can, they will be more likely to help you.

Re: A row for people to post their projects

I think it's a good idea; but I think people would just post their projects on there just to be famous... I feel like it'll be a new "New Projects" row...

In a perfect world, this idea would be flawless.

Hi Coolstuff,
This concern was already brought up, and I addressed it.
Please comment on what I wrote above.

I believe this idea can work great... helping people that need help or attention on a project now, to increase the chance of getting help.  (without a ton of steps: using the "show and tell" forum/bumping threads, spamming galleries and tags... begging for help.)   As you help others, other will be more likely to help you, because it's easy to go to your project and help in return.  (with signatures on comments)

Please, let's put more thought into this.

And again, this was discussed more here.

Look at how many members there are.

Look at how many project contributors there are.

Only 150,000.

Only 150,000 people? Well, that column would change every few seconds, me thinks.

150,000 in comparison to 500,000. Difference?

How about there are "semi-curators" that pick the best projects to be displayed on the front page?

You mean like a group of people who curate, instead of just one? I think this was suggested before... Maybe not. Anyways, that's a great idea! You should make a whole new thread for that, seeing as it kind of strays from this topic's main purpose.

Re: A row for people to post their projects

With something like that, everyone would add there projects every few seconds and it would just end up going crazy and becoming pointless. It's a good idea, but likely wouldn't work  hmm

Personally, I say put the Surprise Projects back on the front page instead  smile .

If it's a page, most people won't bother looking.

Re: A row for people to post their projects

Again, this is basically what we discussed here here... with more of the details and problems worked out.

Yeah, surprise projects was, (and new projects is) a bit better than the current sections that reward the people that know how or have time to promote their projects... (not all do. curator and featured usually work well... the rest sometimes do... but they represent a very small portion of the projects that are made.)

But with surprise and newest, you don't know if they are ready to share- they might just be testing how many demo projects they can upload.
We have the show and tell forum, but it's not very easy to get to or use.  We can do better.

And, why not promote projects within groups/tags?  The front page can no longer be one size fits all. we have varied interests, lets make tags stronger... please?   smile
