Hi I wonder if anyone can tell me why, with some projects that I have copied onto my hard drive from a CD, I get this message?
It has also happened with a project file that was e-mailed to me - should I be saving files as a different type??

That error can appear if you`re opening a project made in a newer version of Scratch in an older version of Scratch, for instance, if you're opening a project made in 1.4 in 1.3. Make sure you're using the same version of Scratch to save and open the files and things should probably work fine.

Thanks for that - I am not sure what version the files were created in but it could be that I am using a newer version and the file is an older version - so is Scratch not backwards compatible?
Scratch is backwards compatible, it's just not forwards compatible. So if you're opening a project made in a newer version of Scratch than you're using, it won't work.
Is that possible? If you already have the latest version of Scratch, something else is going on there, that I can't help you with. Otherwise, try downloading the latest version of Scratch (1.4) and we'll see if that helps.
