Wow, what kind of a box are to trying to make? 
Anyway, If you dont have any other Huge CPU hogging programs opened, then restarting it would probably be your best bet.

Map to: Box
THAT kind of box.
I don't have any huge CPU programs opened. And I stopped the box now.

When I use GIMP, I usually don't have more than one other program running.

I never see lag in gimp. But my computers good. It just depends on your computer.
