It's happened before. Stay safe!

Online people. That guy is soooo cute!!! Saw his pics? He's hot, isn't he? WRONG. Fake, fake, fake! Think again before you give out your personal details!
Lots of people do it. I was on a chatroom and I saw someone give out their mobile number. Everyone could see. As their eyes read it, the person could easily just text them saying 'ik who u r.' That would be freaky!

It's not safe AT ALL. If you're trying to hook up and get to meet up with the guy/gal in real life, it's unsafe. Example :

Guy : heyyy any hot chicks wnna date ?
Gal : ya im free wnna date mine is *** ******* ***... u?
Guy : kwl i live near there wnna meet in ******** park?
Gal : kwl cya thre cya jake
Guy : cya lara

And at the park the guy isn't really an innocent teen like you. He's a dangerous adult that could rob you, murder you or anything like that... Another example.

Person no1 : hi evry1 wnna chat
Person no2 : sur howz u
Person no1 : gdgd u
Person no1 : gd wnna meet up smewhere cuz im bord
Person no2 : yea i live at ** *********** road
Person no1 : im at ** ******** avenue were near thre meet at ur place
Person no2 : kwl.... so um wats ur name?
Don't take people for pieces of text. You can't 'get to know someone' online. You have to in real life.

It's creepy!

Never give out your e-mail, phone, or adress.

Hope this comes in handy!

Remember, it's like if you just had your fone tattooed on to your forehead. If some random called and tryed to threaten you! Keep safe!

Do you wake up some mornings and visit your big-nosed, grumpy-old next-door neighbour and say hi to him. Do you run down the street yelling 'I’m ready' while going to work. Do you work for a cheap employer who pays you slave wages for flipping patties. If yes, check out the Spongebob Fan-Club, providing you with Spongebob for over 2 years!

I don't understand the e-mail thing though. If you don't give it out on the internet, what's the point (not including talking to people you know). Phone and address make sense.

Re: It's happened before. Stay safe!

We have talks about this every year at school, and every year I get more scared of the internet.  There's a reason I don't have a facebook account, and it's because I don't walk stalkers to find me.  I'll get one in a few years, though.

Yeah - our school already had two speeches about bullying, and online social networking.

Mark Brown, somebody who used to be the #1 Public Speaker in the world, came to our school to talk about bullying, and somebody from the District of Attorneys of Massachusetts or something like that came, and she talked about social networking, and being safe and stuff.

One story she had to tell was about how this Adult (Policeman) and Girl were chatting on facebook or something. This isn't the exact story, but it was something like this. So they started talking about soccer, and the guy said "Jeez, I HATE the color of my soccer shirt - it's red, like, for girls!" and the girl replied "Yeah, well I have green, my favorite color!". Then, the guy said "And the number? It's just terrible - it's 13, like Friday the 13th!" and the girl said "Yeah, well I have 11 - my favorite number!". Then, the guy said "Plus, the soccer field I train at is like far away, and it usually rains, so it's just such a pain to play and get there". The girl replied "Lucky me, mine is right down my street - I live at [address] and my soccer field is just down the street!". Lastly, the guy said "And the timing is bad - it's usually early in the morning, so I have no time to get ready - and it's on Saturdays!". The girl replied "Yeah, well, mine is on 12:00 on Sundays! It's just great!". So the guy said he had to go, and then, the guy went to the soccer game on Sunday at 12:00, and found the girl, but being a police officer, he didn't do anything, but did teach the girl and parents to be more safe on the internet  tongue . So it just proves that you really shouldn't give out very much information.

Re: It's happened before. Stay safe!

E-mail still doesn't make sense.
People are still getting to overprotective...
Answer this: does this happen half of all times that you use a social networking site? Is it almost guaranteed that this will happen to you? There is a chance, but there is no reason to be more scared than going out.

Think about this...
You're on a social networking site. Maybe a few people will have this happen to them. Think about what could happen if you walked outside...
-You could get hit by lightning
-You could get hit by a meteor
-You could get hit by hail
-A mugger could attack you
-You could trip and hurt yourself
-You could bump into something that would hurt you
Etc.
If there were newspaper stories about children going outside and being hit by lightning everywhere, people would be scared of that, even if it's an extremely low chance.

The point is, this will not always happen. There is no reason to be scared unless you're scared to walk outside (in a peaceful area, zombie apocalypses don't count).

reminds me of an article about how university of colorado at boulder banned nerf guns for humans vs zombies. let me find that...
cant find it  hmm  but I remember they had a list of hat they should ban next. one of them was pencils. you'll poke your eye out!
I don't get the email part either. they can spam you, but they can't find you unless you talk to them  hmm

Re: It's happened before. Stay safe!

My point is that you're talking to an absolute stranger,  and I'm a stranger to you, you're a stranger to me. You don't know who you're talking to ... and it's happened before. I can't bear the thought of that happening...

Re: It's happened before. Stay safe!

I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're not entirely true. Not everyone onthe Internet is a creepy old man trying to prey on kids- you have to have some faith in people. I met one of my best friends online, on RuneScape (don't judge me.). I'd known him and frequently talked to him online for like 4 years, and just recently he moved like an hour and a half away from me (coincidentally) and now we hang out all the time. Granted, he's two years older than me, but what are you gonna do.

All I'm saying is it's ok to talk to people online, but like you said, don't give out your cellphone or adress.

I'm a girl! I don't get carried away. I only give my email to friends on Scratch who I've known for at least a year. Or people I've know on a chat and Toontown.

That may be the case but for something this important, there's no harm in it being re-stated

Loads of people talk like that online, it's annoying. It translates...
Person no1 : Hi everyone! Want to chat?
Person no2 : Sure! How are you?
Person no1 : Good, good. You?
Person no1 : Good. Want to meet up somewhere because I'm bored.

No offence taken, by the way. I actually type normally not lke dis. Thanks!
