Try cooltext.com It allows you to customize it. You choose your style, font, and colors, and it renders it for you! It's ready in only a few seconds and it's free. I trust it for a lot of school projects.

You can save it as an image. In fact, that's the only way. Once you've saved it, upload it to a site like TinyPic, then put the IMG tags, and there's your picture for the forums.
