Recording Sounds

Okay, I've just tried to record for the FIFTH time a song that is exactlly 3 minutes, but whenever I click stop or okay, it just erases everything I've recorded, and either closes out of sarts over at 0:00 recording time.  What should I do?

Re: Recording Sounds

Hmm... have you got a microphone installed?  hmm  Perhaps it isn't working?

You could try importing the song, if you have a copy saved...  smile

Re: Recording Sounds

The scratch recorder will only save the sound that is loudly emitted into the microphone.

Things you can try:
1. Make sure you microphone is sensing sound by doing the "Test Hardware" wizard if you have a Windows computer. (Control panel, sound and audio devices, voice, test hardware)
2. Move your microphone closer to where you are recording from. If you have a built in microphone remember that they will pick up less sound, so move the computer closer to it if you can.
3. If all fails, You can use a different program to record audio, and then import it into your scratch project. I recommend Audacity, a free program. Some Windows computers have a free recording program already. I found one in Start, All programs, Accessories, Entertainment, and Sound Recorder.

Hope this helps!  smile

Re: Recording Sounds

Just tried it, (I'm recording it off of my iPod Touch), put it on full volume, and put my microphone leaning on the screen.  The volume measurment was at over halfway, and still nothing!  I don't know what to do!  (Unfortunattly, the only way I can get this song otherwise is if I buy a $20 album)

Put the microphone next to the speaker on your iPod. Then make sure you have the sound up on your computer.

Re: Recording Sounds

Hmm.  Just tried suggestion #3, and now the microphone has absolutely no responce at all.  Maybe the microphone is broken?  Still doesn't explain why the Scratch Audio Recorder said that there was an audio (the sound bar was at half full).  Oh well.  I'll try another mic.

If you have another mic, it would be a good idea to try that. Sounds like you are in a weird situation, because didn't you say that it detects sound, but just won't record? Hmm... maybe you might have to do some more research online. Maybe see if there have been any problems with the particular microphone, you have. Sometimes there are good solutions. I haven't ever had any problems using a mic with scratch. I have a cheapo logitech one, but it works well.  wink

Re: Recording Sounds

Okay, I just tried my other two perfectly fine microphones (I tested them on my Wii and they worked), and all that is being recorded is a quick popping sound, even though it says sound is being detected.  It won't close out anymore, but it still won't record.  And I don't get it, I've used the microphone before without any trouble.

Re: Recording Sounds

Hmm... I guess all of the answers we can give you has been tried. Sometimes people just wait, and come back to things later, and they miraculously work. So you might just want to wait, and come back a few days later. I guess there is not much I can do to help...  hmm

Re: Recording Sounds

1. Stupid thought, but is your recording volume turned down?
2. Do you have a Windows or a Mac computer?

I'm currently taking a break from Scratch.
Zing - now even easier to install!
