Conference 2009

If you are not able to go to the 2008 conference, and you might be going to the 2009 one (if there is one) put your name here.

Re: Conference 2009

I would like to go, but the conference seems more for teachers and education purposes than to just have fun and meet some fellow Scratchers. And the money is not an issue with me, as long as I get the $175.00 entrance fee ("We don't care how much, as long as it's for educational purposes" -my mom). But that might be too high...

Re: Conference 2009

I am thinking that maybe you could ask your parents to organize mini-Scratch gatherings with other parents of Scratch fans that live close by you. This way it would be almost free and you wouldn't have to travel all the way to Boston.

Anyway, it's just an idea  smile

Thing is, I know nobody who knows about Scratch except maybe 2 people (1 said he would, another, during a presentation of me using Scratch shouted 'I use Scratch too!'). But I try to tell people, they just don't listen!

Actually, thats a great idea! The only problem is, there are many unsafe things with that plan. 1. I only know of 2 other avid scratch users in my area, one of them posts very mean comments on projects and in the forums, the other is very nice.
2. The people who might pretend to be nice could be looking to break in your house (unlikely, but better safe than sorry)
3. I have a feeling people would not feel safe, going over to a stranger's house. Even if you "know" somebody on scratch, they might be completely different in real life.
4. I doubt my parents would let me host this, or go to one. My best hope is to go to the conference next year. I already have the money, but the timing is the big issue here..........Still, a wonderful idea andresmh!

Haha California is quite a long ways away. We do have a couple relatives and friends in Boston though. I will be in high school next year, and Im sure my summer may be full of educational activites or sports. It would be nice to go though.

Re: Conference 2009

I would like to attend in 2009, but the registration costs, and travel/lodging costs are prohibitive.  Our school district offers little financial support for CS programs and CS professional development.  I attended 2 of the cheaper workshops this summer, and I had to pay for it out of my own pocket.  If you can hold conferences around the country like the Alice workshops, then I'm sure it would reach more educators.  I currently reside in Houston.

I heard next year it would be in London? Is this correct, or unknown? Or Massachusetts?

Re: Conference 2009

London? Like, London, England? London, Ontario? Those are the only Londons I know of.

As much as I'd love to go, I have a feeling my parents won't let me. Actually I know that they won't. Maybe when I move out? If Scratch still exists...

Maybe if you could host them around the globe (Toronto would be a good place, lots of scratchers live there) then I would be able to go.

Re: Conference 2009

Yeah, Toronto. It's pretty close to Boston, and it will let a lot of Canucks go too. I have relatives who live near Toronto, so it would be really cheap. Wait a second... Boston isn't that far from Ottawa. The only thing is, it would be expensive to stay overnight.

Re: Conference 2009

I'd like to go. I think I'm going to MA anyway. If I save up and tranquilize everyone while the conference is going on, I'm sure I can make it.

Re: Conference 2009

I feel bad that I couldn't make it to the 2008 conference, just because I have such a busy summer! No problem for being too far away from the conference anyways, I live in MA...Not too far from MIT!  big_smile

MEH! It wasn't fair that I had to attend a SEVEN HOUR FLIGHT, so it'd be better if I could go for a 1 hour drive  big_smile

Besides, apparently more people live around London that are on Scratch...well, that's what I was told.
