I think that you should maybe hire more mods to be temporary mods, and that doesn't have the power of a real mod, the only thing they can do is delete posts. I mean, those mods couldn't really do too much damage if any of them actually turned into a bad mod, because the only thing they can do is delete posts. Then you could enable images.
A summary:
Bad temporary moderators can't do more damage than they could do without being them, like they can't ban anyone or anything like that. Then you could enable images, and everyone will be happy. You could un-mod the temporary moderators when the image control stops being abused.
Who shall be with my idea, Say I (Eigh/Eye)!

THEY DEAL WITH IT.
So, mods, I say put everything back to normal and let the Mods and good citizens of the
Scratch Community be on the lookout.
We're always open to suggestions. But It's not an easy problem when you think about it, as others have mentioned on this thread.

Hello everyone -
Believe me, we really don't like having to disable features - especially features that are useful and important to community members. Unfortunately, when we considered all the options and the resources we have available, this is the best we can do. We are looking into alternatives strategies so that community members won't be as affected by our efforts to prevent these kinds of attacks, but it might take some time. Believe me, if we could handle this quicker, or make it easier on you guys we would, but for now we must ask you to be patient.

I understand your situation, if this was my forum I'd be kind of stressed too. Being a normal member, I can't help much, but when you put images up, you have my word that I'll do my part in keeping the posts user-friendly.

You could ban the users that were doing that, maybe permanently, because that is a really horrible thing to do. That would be a good idea because stopping it in the forums wouldn't stop them from making projects with this stuff in them. I think this was probably for the better (I don't post images that much anyway) this spam seems to just be getting worse and worse.

T_T
Why is it every time I get sidetracked trying to get HTML and CSS to stop exploding in my face or finishing an English Essay I miss something on Scratch? xD
Although this time it sounds like it was probably a good thing..? Except the disabled images.

Would it be possible to make a rule like the signature rule? Users who have been on the forums a certain of days and have been responsible would be able to post signatures.
Just an idea. Thanks mods for working so hard to keep the community safe!

Okay. This is ridiculous. A few spammers decided to post bad images, so now the entire forum can't post images. As another user said, "If someone made a lot of bad projects, would you remove the ability to upload projects?"
Honestly, I think the people who have abused the system should be removed, and anyone who does after this should be removed as well. We shouldn't be punished for something another person did. Many of those people are likely far across the world. We don't know them, and can't do anything to stop them.
So please, give us the ability to post images back. It's impeding the community and it's removing the share from Imagine, Program, Share.
I hope you hear this, and you care about us, and you undo this now.

Unfortunately, the situation just isn't that simple. If it was, I think I'd agree with your point of view entirely.
We have blocked the accounts used to post inappropriate images and links. But we haven't disabled the creation of new accounts. Unfortunately, the people who have been attacking the site have found ways to keep creating new accounts to post more and more bad stuff. We're working on ways to prevent this sort of abuse, but those changes take time. So, at least for now, the best compromise is to disable some features.
Remember: The Scratch project is funded by donations - of money, time and effort. That's how we're able to provide the Scratch software, website, and forums for free. So it's easy to say "Just change the code and fix it!" But - as anyone who's ever remixed a complex Scratch project knows - changing code takes time and energy. So believe me - we're working on it. But in the meantime, please be patient.

Is there any way to make an image checker thing so that when someone puts an image in a post the website is checked against what is known about it?

Most of the spamming and inappropriate topics I find are mostly in the Misc. Forum. I think the Misc. Forum allows people to do too much, leading to inappropriate content. The forums used to be a friendly place for everyone, so do we need to change something big? We need to figure things out, so we can be the strong community that we used to be.

It's a shame to here that spammers are forcing us to change things, but I agree with your decision to temporarily remove img tags. Perhaps you could add a Captcha for account creation.

That is also a good idea, but spammers are sometimes smart, how much will it stop spamming?

Well, considering it was a human who initiated the attacks, Captcha won't do anything to help, I'm afraid.

I have an idea. If you post a topic or post with pictures, they could be hidden until reviewed by moderators, and then be allowed. It would be a time consuming task for moderators (sorry ), but it could work until you trust the community enough to continue with freedom.

How about... If you've never abused the image tool, been here for 2+ weeks and have, let's say, over 40 posts then you can use it or something.
This would prevent someone from making a new account and instantly spamming. How about we use the same rule as signatures? I mean, if somebody does post an inappropriate image, we ban them, they make a new account, and voila! They can't post any more images until 2+ weeks, and we're all happy
Yeah, and then BAM! 2+ weeks later, it happens again. Or, we could ban their IP address

So this happened since 8:00 AM June 10th mountain standard time.

I agree with coka on this one. That would be a good addition. Mods can then check to see if there is any inappropriate images.

I must say, (and I'm sorry i have to say it), but this really sucks.

The Scratch Team is having a hard enough time dealing with spam and other forum issues, so maybe we should keep our comments about this "stressful" time to ourselves, and be glad for what is still available, because they could have shut down the forums for a few weeks, or something else worse. Thanks!

If you go down to the bottom of the page, "[img] tag" will be off for everyone (theorodically)!

Okay then... how about you enable images to only people who can say they deserve them and aren't new?
Jeez, I don't know.
When you say that changing the code is hard, then why is it so easy to break it for everyone?
