The Art of Editing(or vice versa)

Now no need for a flame war, but I have a question. Do you think graphics editin) and such is an art? I'm not taking about strict official definitions, but what I'm saying is would it count as something like drawing. I'm kind of in the middle, because you need to color and manipulate the piece, but it doesn't really give the artistic feel because you are not actually doing the shading, and it's just kind of dragging boxes(in Paint, for example) Not to say I don't appreciate the nice turnout, but when people say "I drew this," I'm kind of like", No, eh, you mostly added effects......."

Any opinions?

Re: The Art of Editing(or vice versa)

Eh, I draw stuff from scratch on the computer,so I count it as art. But really, your always just adding effects to a piece of paper or a blank white box. So its kinda both.

Re: The Art of Editing(or vice versa)

Well the stuff I edit is my own stuff, but if you're just editing I think it qualifies as art, but not completely your art.

Most of my stuff that's on the computer I drew in Paint.
And not the fancy shmancy Windows 7 paint, the old XP one

Re: The Art of Editing(or vice versa)

I think it's art... as most skills are actually. It is quite close to drawing Imho - I expect people who like graphics editing to be good at drawing as well, and usually that is true. However, I know a lot less artists who are good at graphics editing than vice versa, since graphic editing requires a knowledge of some sort of software... it all depends. ^^

Also, "casual" editing like adding effects isn't really graphics editing... I think graphics editing is a very advanced thing and requires a lot of study.

Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

It's art, but it's very important to give full credit to the creator or supplier of the original image, unless it's yourself.  tongue

I love my fancy shmancy Windows 7 paint, but it's kind of confusing lol.

And I can't explain why, but I just think it's an art. I stink at it, but I still consider graphics and such an art.

Re: The Art of Editing(or vice versa)

Does that include photo editing? If you work hard enough on what you are editing, I'd say its definitely an art. It takes a lot of skill and work to get it right. Half the time I work longer on editing and image then drawing one. Its Especially difficult when you do stuff like Joe Nicklo and take photos like this and turn them into This

Thats deffinitly an art.
