This is the official thread for the Shades of Gray collaboration.
The Idea:
Shades of Gray - After the End (Either name could be used)
This game is set in the near future, when the first nuclear war has been started. A small city in America is violently bomed. Alexander Louis, a researcher in a physics lab in the city, survives and tries to get out of the laboratory, now having to wander through rooms twisted and broken by the bombing, see the ghosts of his fellow co-workers and find out why such an unimportant city was bombed.
This was Kileymeister's idea on his "Lotsa Ideas" thread
Theme:
This is going to be a primarily puzzle RPG game. You, Alexander Louis, are going to have to travel around the city solving "minigame" like puzzles to unlock more areas and getting more items to eventually solve the mystery.
Person and View:
The game has barely even been started so there is a lot to decide about it. First off, we know that while Alexander is in a room it will be a side view platformer style area, but we need to decide what the city streets will be like. I personally think the streets should be a top down area, so you can travel in two dimensions instead of one.
We'll have a vote on this aspect.
View in the Streets Vote-
Top-down- 2
Side-view- 0
Other- 0
(Remember this vote only applies to action taking place in the streets)
Objects:
Another very important aspect of the game (that I envision) is inter-actable objects. I want there to be tons of objects, all of which can be touched, moved, carried, taken, and have some role in the game. We'll think about engines we can use to have the character manipulate objects in the future.
We're going to want, at the very least, an inventory. When the inventory button is clicked the game will pause and the inventory screen will appear. Here you will be able to view every object you've picked up, and you will be able to use these objects.
IndentCombining Objects: Another feature I want for objects is to be able to combine them. From the inventory screen you will be able to choose two objects and then hit the "combine" button and you will either get a new object (based on the two combined) or an error message.
Enemies:
I don't know if this game should have enemies.
Right now I think the game won't. I want it to be a straight up puzzle game, no enemies, only you, puzzles, items, and locked doors.
However, I think we should open this up to vote because it is an important decision.
Enemy Vote-
Yes Enemies- 0
No Enemies- 2
Ghosts:
As you can see if you read Kileymeister's original idea, ghosts are going to be a huge element in this game (you can also figure this out by the title).
Ghosts are going to be NPCs (Non-player characters), ghosts will provide story and background as well as clues and incentives. Ghosts will all be unique and reoccurring, appearing throughout the game to help out the player, Alexander. Once we know the members, we'll talk more about how ghosts will affect the game and how many ghosts we want etc.
Members:
I think we will want a team of 4-8 members working on this project, I'll decide who gets to join.
Programming-
1. Demosthenes
2. Kileymeister
3. Soupoftomato
4.
Graphics Design-
1. Kileymeister
2. Greenboi
3. Blade-Edge
4.
Story-
1. Demosthenes
2. Kileymeister
3. Soupoftomato
4.
A side note. I have not talked to Kileymeister about using his idea. It may turn out he wants us to stop making this project, we'll have to accept that since we did steal his idea
If Kileymeister wants to join the collaboration he has a guaranteed spot (don't worry though, I'll make a new spot for him I won't kick anyone out of the collab).

Awesome
Glad you want to help!
Adding you in now!
EDIT: I put you down for all three (graphics, programming, story). Is that where you'd want to be?

Okay, one thing first though, have you seen the demo, can you make graphics of that style?

No, I thought up to the title to suggest the gray area between right and wrong, perhaps towards the motives of destroying the town, or to another part of the story that may pop up later. I looked up the book and it does sound interesting though, and I was thinking of adding government control into the story (as I see the book is mainly about).

Yes
I'm currently working on fixing some bugs with the AI for the boss, the next version will be out soon
(This also functions as a bump . . . >.>)

Right, I should also vote on the enemies thing. I say no because I feel this game should be as you said, more of a puzzle game.
Also put Blade-Edge under Graphic Design, and let's officially start on this.
