Every 2 weeks, nominees are nominated in a thread in announcements.
The community votes.
For 2 weeks, the newest 3 of that person's projects would be displayed on the Scratch homepage.
I think this would be pretty cool!
You could be elected twice, but not twice in a row.
What do you think?

It's an excellent idea, but I don't think you should be able to be elected twice. Give the other Scratchers a chance, eh? Other than that, I fully support. They have things like this all the time on other websites. Or maybe they could feature Users as they do Galleries and Projects!

You could only be voted twice with 1 year in-between.

Lovely idea! I support - especially considering many people don't stay on for more than a year.

Thanks!
I just passed my 6th month of posting on the forums!

The curator is the scratcher of the week.
No, they're not. The focus of curators is that the curators choose other peoples' projects to feature - in fact, the Scratch team goes to considerable lengths to make sure that the focus is not on the curator. This would be much more user-focused.

Two weeks is a long time to be frontpaged...
It's a nice idea - but favoritism might occur.

This is a good idea! I really support that.

Good thought!
I think you would have to already be popular to get even more popular. That may not be fair to good scratchers that don't work as much to become popular.
Perhaps a similar idea could work: maybe blind voting of projects? Voters are shown a random nominated project without seeing comments or the username.
Or perhaps rewarding users that leave helpful comments.
But if the goal is to promote good projects or projects that want attention or help, I think it could be even more simple than that. (We already have love it's, favorites, tags, and galleries, lets make those better?)

I like this, and the above idea as a nomination would be great too if it could work out. You're all right; it could end up being a popularity contest, so just showing a project without a person's name next to it could be effective.

Have the nominees been announced for this week yet?

It's only an idea at the moment - the Scratch Team have neither approved or rejected it. So this might happen in the future, but not for a while

Any other comments?
I was thinking, maybe, that that Scratch Team should choose nominees.
Or maybe they could assemble a team of nominators! A "Board of Directors" if you will of people who have a history of finding and commenting constructively on creative projects.
Might seem a bit far-fetched, but it takes a lot of work off the Scratch team's hands

I'm a bit worried that it would become a popularity contest...
And those who are already on the front page are most likely to be popular, so they'd probably win the most votes. I wish there was a way to feature work by Scratchers who are less well known. There's a lot of great stuff on the website that most people never even see!

That's why a "Board of Directors" would be such a great idea - it's somewhat like curating users! They wouldn't choose anybody who's terribly popular, but people with original projects, something that Scratch has never seen before.

@lightnin: I see your point. It would be tough...
But coolstuff had a great idea! Pick Scratchers, who, twice a week, pick 8 nominees! They could all be popular, and they couldn't vote for each other!
Kinda a problem-solver...
