Your opinion on Blood

What is your opinion about blood being in scratch projects?

The other day i ask andre for his opinion on blood,he replied that it was hard to say and that i should ask the community so now I ask you,the community, your opinion of blood.should it be an open thing on scratch?or should project containing it be flagged?why or why not?

0:for it
0:against it
3:if warned for it if not against it

Re: Your opinion on Blood

i dont think they should be flagged if the community is warned, however if they're not warned i don't think it should be in.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

Well the question was "what is your opinion of blood?" not "what is your opinion of blood in scratch projects" so I gave an honest answer. As far as blood in scratch projects go there should be a warning to satisfy the sensitive people.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

I do not like games with blood in them and they should not be on the website. Paddle2See agrees with me.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

Yeah... Paddle seems right.  hmm
In my opinion, I suppose a strong warning is substantial... but anyway the blood amount should be kept minimal - if disgusting costumes are used, that's different - it should be flagged.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

It really depends on the amount. If it's kept to a minimum or discoloured/unrealistic, etc. a warning is enough (you could even add an option in-game to disable it). But when it gets to the point where your screen starts turning red, that's when it should be removed.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

pff.

cartoon blood? come on guys. not even a 4 year old would be scared of that.

as for Paddle2See's comments, i don't really agree. the warnings are there so people can't complain. it's they're problem for viewing it in the first place. they were warned.

but that is just my opinion, everyone is entitled to one.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=14210 There's an interesting thread about violence in Scratch projects you might be interested in reading. :-D I also expressed my opinion there...

MyRedNeptune wrote:

Actually, it all depends on the way blood and violence is presented in a project. Sure, violence is part of our life, but when the blood is accented, that cannot be considered appropriate, because then the violence is taken not as "just a small part of life", but as something that life is all about. That is called gore, and that is, what I believe, Rico is afraid of.
And actually, sometimes it's hard to distinguish a violent concept from a non-violent one.
Sometimes, a project can be quite harmful without visible blood, projects that contain "emotional" violence. For example, they might encourage hatred towards a person or anything in itself or provoke negative feelings.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

My next game will have blood in it, but you can turn it off, which is great for the young 'uns. TBH as long as it has a warning I think it's okay.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

Well, I think it depends on how it is used. If it is used in a way that’s just supposed to gross you out, such as a simple animation of someone jumping off a building or cutting off there limes, then I disapprove  tongue  but if it’s a project that someone worked hard at and just added blood to make it more realistic and the project isn’t centered on blood or violent for the sake violence, then its just fine.  smile

Re: Your opinion on Blood

Well, I really dont like those kinds of projects that are just made for the blood/violence/torture, like projects called "Shoot _____" or "Turture _____" where the game is centered on the blood, and I think they should be flagged. In games, you dont really need to simulate blood. You can just make the character glow red or jerk backwards when it recieves a hit, but I dont really mind if someone uses a small amount of simulated blood just so you know the characer is getting hurt or loosing lifes, and thats not covering half of the screen or on every other costume and bakckround.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

My opinion is you can use it, and I personally have nothing against blood. But then the rules come so my opinion is yes, but not excessive to the point that poking something with a stick causes a huge gush of blood.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

It's when blood is used in massive amounts it become unneccessary. Brutal legend for example has very high blood if you turn the gore on. It is really unneccessary.

With it though in small doses.

Hmm... I find it okay if there's a warning. But I personally don't like games with blood, so I never play them.

Re: Your opinion on Blood

I think blood in games and on Scratch is okay, as long as it's realistically minimal and there is a warning. I mean, if a cat scratches you (no pun indended  wink  ), there's going to be a little blood. But if gruesome costumes and limb-loss, or other intense violence is in there, it shouldn't be on Scratch in the first place.  tongue
