Hi. There has been a lot of talk about Scratch 2.0, and here is my input on it.
1. Why online? So, if I'm not connected to the internet, I can't work on my projects?!?!? That is a horrible idea. Who wants to be stuck on a browser programming? Certainly, not me!
2. Flash? Why Flash? You won't be able to support ALL mobile devices then. Apple won't EVER allow Flash on iPhone or iPod Touch or iPad. http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ There's a link saying so. Don't use Flash to make Scratch 2.0, if it is going to be online, then use HTML5 or something better integrated with the web browser. Flash is old news and is resource hungry. A lot of people use older machines, so it won't run that well.
3. Security - If the server gets hacked or something, then all the users might lose their projects and data.
4. Loss of Internet Connection - What happens if the user loses their internet connection, then the user will lose all their data that they haven't saved....... no one wants that.
Feel free to post input on these and how you feel about the ideas of Scratch 2.0.
Sadly, I am leaving Scratch FOREVER. So this will probably be my last post. I was hoping to get one front page game, but oh well. Good bye.

Scratch 2.0 will still be usable when there is no Internet connectivity and will still let you save project on your hard disk.

All your points are easily countered.

//There will be a downloadable version

//1. Apple won't allow any 3rd party program creation tools and since scratch is a creation tool it won't be allowed by Apple no matter what.
2. The newest versions of flash don't run on mobile devices yet but a different compatible player can be created.
3. Security - If the server gets hacked or something, then all the users might lose their projects and data.
//This isn't even about the program now. I don't think this has ever been an issue and the site seems pretty secure.
4. Loss of Internet Connection - What happens if the user loses their internet connection, then the user will lose all their data that they haven't saved....... no one wants that.

The thing that bugs me about v2 is the focus on non-performance aspects. Forget sharing it on facebook (because there isn't enough spam there right?) I want sprite duping, the rest of the math functions, multi-dimentional arrays (could be called tables), and a host of other things.

Nobody ever said there *wouldn't* be those things.

sorry... you're leaving scratch because you're too advanced for it, but have yet to have a front page project... explain please?
What does having front page projects have to do with programming ability? He's the guy who programmed the Scratch iPhone app

You don't need to be popular to be advanced. You might have just gotten an account and figured everything out.

Apple won't allow any 3rd party program creation tool on the iPhone but they are allowed on computers (Macs).

Well obviously
@At Archmage
The scratch team was planning on letting scratch projects be available for use on portable devices.

@markyparky56 - Portable devices other than the iPhone because Apple already won't let anything that you see on the iPhone to come from anywhere but the app store. AND they won't let anything you see on the iPhone to be programmed in Objective-C. (With an exception of anything you see on the internet..........That means that if Scratch 2.0 is on the internet, it might be able to be used on the iPhone!)

technoman didn't program that Scratch application - that was made by Corporate Smalltalk Consulting Ltd..
They made an application for viewing Scratch projects on the iPod Touch/iPhone - technoman was working on the actual Scratch program.
