  With all the languages I'm familiar with, the level of...complicatedness goes like this:

English (not very complicated) --> French (quite complicated) --> Russian (very complicated) --> Arabic (uberly complicated)

And I don't know Arabic. But one of my friends used to study it, so I'm familiar. ^^

Actually, French is a "Romance Language", meaning it is one of the five that come from Latin. The other four are Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian. Anyway, at one point in history, a group called the Normans invaded England (I'm pretty sure) and put in a bunch of French words (which, in case you don't remember, derive from Latin) into the English language, like squirrel. That is how so much Latin got into English.
