"Add me as a friend" problem

I don't mind it when someone adds me as a friend. I see it as a sign of respect, but the thing that annoys me and I get fed up of is when someone with some stupid username like [removed by Forum Moderator] or  [removed by Forum Moderator] just randomly adds me as a friend. I've stopped adding them as friends now, because it really GET'S ON MY NERVES. If you agree, post on this topic and campaign against them!

IF YOU'RE FED UP TOO, POST AND CAMPAIGN!

I might return for a little while.

Re: "Add me as a friend" problem

I can see where you might find that annoying...it would seem that they just want to be your friend to increase their friend count, not because they really like your projects.

However, please don't call out people by name on the forums - just describe the problem in general terms.  It's less likely to cause bad feelings that way  smile

Your best approach here, is just to ignore them and don't bother to friend them back.  In the current version of the site software, there is no way to prevent them from friending you - maybe that would be something good to add as a new feature.

Moving this to "All About Scratch" as "Show and Tell" is for advertising Scratch projects and galleries.

Re: "Add me as a friend" problem

As Paddle2See said, it's important to respect other users - lest you be disrespected yourself. If anything, you should be glad they add you as a friend: it shows up in "Your Friends Recent Projects" on their part, and therefore gets your projects more views.

Yep, it's free advertising  big_smile

If someone adds you, most of the time they genuinely like your projects (unless it's just a new user who wants friends). It doesn't really matter, adding them back is just a sign of respect.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: "Add me as a friend" problem

I hate that too. One time, I was on a website, and JUST because I had the same word in my name as her (or his) user name! I had to block her or else she would say " I'm the only Betty. > sad  "  yikes  (that was the word that we both had. 'Betty')

Re: "Add me as a friend" problem

It is pretty annoying when I log on and see that I have one message, and end up being disappointed by it just being "random person has added you as a friend". For me, it takes a lot for me to add someone to my friends list. I still only have about 15 people on there.

Re: "Add me as a friend" problem

But think about it this way:
Basically they're making one of your projects always on the front page for them.

Ah, yes. That happens to me a lot. Maybe they could make it more like YouTube's Friending system?

Re: "Add me as a friend" problem

The friending system definitely needs some work, although I don't really mind random people friending me. I just figure that either they just want friends, or they like my projects. Either way, I just friend them back if I like their projects.

See, I generally friend people as a sign of respect, not necessarily because I find their projects to be entertaining. I would like the section of the front page concerning friends to only include projects I am personally interested in - which is why I find Cheddargirl's suggestion to be such a necessity.
