Sprites on background editor

My suggestion for future versions of Scratch is the ability of showing sprites in the background editor, in order to create backgrounds that fit your current sprite position.

Re: Sprites on background editor

This would be a great idea. Also in paint editor should be you are able to give a highlighted part of the sprite an effect so that you dont have to create another sprite and mash them together.

Re: Sprites on background editor

I wonder how that would be implemented though, and whether it wouldn't be too confusing.

In some ways, you can already do something like this using the "grab screen region for new sprite" tool, where you can select part of the Scratch window, and generate a sprite from the selection.

Re: Sprites on background editor

The problem with "grab screen" is that new inactive sprites are created everytime you need to "glue" something together.
It would be less confusing if you could edit the background directrly, without opening new window. That way it would be intuitive that  the sprites should be shown.

Ah, so you probably suggest adding a "editing mode" feature... that's an interesting concept! I wonder how hard that would be to code, since it seems like a big change to the current functioning.

It's great to see that you're using the forums, but some people might find off-topic posts a little annoying. Please be respectful - thanks  smile
