Suggestions for some better rules

If anyone flames here, I will report them. Meh, this'll get closed anyway.

Maybe every time someone says something bad about someone, they get banned for a day. They do it again, 2 days. Again, 4 days. Duplicates, etc., until they finally are banned forever, than should happen after around 8 or 16 days of getting banned. Of course, if they do something very bad, they get banned depending on the badness of the comment/reply, etc..
One thing should be: Forget the flame war. Nobody's better.:. And if someone brings up someone being better, they get banned, from the system on top.
If you have a suggestion, put it as a reply and I'll put it. Or, better yet, get a mod to close this so that nobody can flame!

I don't really like this idea, because sometimes you don't know that what you'll say is offensive and you get banned.

Re: Suggestions for some better rules

The Scratch Team said that they try to ban as a last resort... banning for that seems a bit harsh - a warning in the form of a post seems to do.  hmm

Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

I think what we have at the moment is fine.  hmm

It's ok to talk about this - I don't think you need to fear the flames.  smile

One thing I'd like you to consider in your proposal is that we have a finite amount of time to deal with these issues. It may seem easy to ban / unban somebody 3 or 4 times, but the time cost adds up when you consider it happening with many different users, and also add in all the testing, adding new features, and other jobs we have to do.

So I'm thinking a notification, then a 3 day ban, then 1 week. If after that the poster is still disrespectful, I gotta say we gave it a shot and did our best to give them a chance to change...

The other challenge is defining what "saying something bad about someone" is... It can be tricky. How would you define this?  I'm asking because it would be really useful for us mods if the community came up with a clear definition about these things that we could apply to different situations.
