Scratchers, young and old(er), soon a brand new type of OS on Scratch will come out! please keep reading, as this is not just a puny try to advertise a normal OS sim, but a revolution of offline Scratch programming.
What's so new
The big change in this is the software will be uniquely available offline, as a SB file including all of my code according to the terms of use, plus a customized version of the scratch image with some useful extra blocks and a direct fullscreen option. this allows the user to save the changes and settings to the SB file.
Another change is a brand new block which allows links to other programs, so that it's not all crammed into one SB file and you can choose to add your own programs from a gallery.
Some Downsides
Life is not all pink and rosey, and nothing is perfect. Here is a list of the downsides of this revolution.
- You need Windows XP / Vista
- Larger size than a normal project
- You need a space in C:\Program Files for installation
Some Advantages
I wouldn't be posting here if there weren't many good things about the new system.
- You can save stuff to the memory
- A great guided installation
- Very customizable
- Less lagg as divided into many projects
- Add the progs you want
- Can access web pages
The Release
Here's the bit you're all waiting for: when's it gonna be available to everyone?
I have many on-going projects right now, but i'll always be working on this and, bit by bit, i'll get to finish it sometime.
the more ideas i get from you on this post, the quicker i'll finish it. post your ideas for programs and features, your questions, your advice.
The site
Here is the link to the SilverOS website, where i will (eventually) upload the OS.

Whoa! That sounds amazing!
...can I help?
Well i'd rather keep developing the main OS on my own, but there's loads of other things to do!
i need suggestions for apps, i want good apps, not the usual calculator and media player
then i need someone to make those apps for me once i've approved, but that's later on.
i also need beta testers, later on.
finally i need a site for it (which i have)
and then i just need people who download it and enjoy!
so for now please can you find some ideas for apps?

You could make some arcade-y games, like a pac-man game or pong game.
I have a great window thing which can be dragged, minimized, maximized, and obviously closed, if you want to use that. It also has great graphics.
You might even make a scrolling platformer, if it isn't too laggy. (scratch's middle name is laggy, so you should be careful with that)
You might even make a little terminal window... that would be cool.

wow, those are some great ideas! could you please post a link to that awesome window you have? and i can simply use some of the games i have made; remember i can link the OS to other projects!
i have the blocks to show/hide lists, so i can make a command prompt, but what's that useful for?

You confused me.
I don't know if it's gonna be made in something like C# or it's gonna be another Scratch hack.

I need Windows? Darn.
why? do you have a mac/linux?
and don't worry, you just need to be able to run EXE files and have a folder in C:\ called Program Files. that's it. i knew this would disappoint many Mac users...

There, all packaged up ready for other use. (It actually came from an OS of my own, Turquoise.)

Just curious, but why do you need XP or Vista to run it? It's a Scratch project, which runs the same on all computers.
yes, but this is not an ordinary scratch project, as i specified in the first post. i need at least 2 exe files to make it work, and i'm not sure about the linux system but i think it doesnt even have a folder in c:\ called program files.

Looks awesome. Why does it have to be a file in C:\ program files?
ok. i'm seriously thinking of changing that. it's because the link blocks don't support windows dynamic variables (like %userhome% or %systemroot%) so i can't tell it to go to the user directory. i can try to change that though, if it bothers so many ppl.

If you have a Macintosh, use a program called Wine to run the app.

THis sounds interesting. Will you create an online version, or will it be specifically for offline only?

Isn't Wine for Linux? Or is there a Mac version?

There will be an online "demo" version that does not include any of the new blocks, but if you want them (the new blocks), you will have to use the offline version.
