After playing the flash game Colony, I've decided to make a game similar to it. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea on how to make a real-time strategy game like Colony. Any help?
(Note: I may trash this idea.)

maybe have a dice system.
<pick random( )to(
and use health and a system where your team takes outposts of flags but must battle using the dice system.

Colony was 2D. I'm not thinking Starcraft here. No outposts.

Basically, this is what I'm thinking of: there will be two bases, yours and the enemies'. Each base will be surrounded by "slots" for buildings to be built. Each building can either create a certain resource (in the Colony game, the resources were money, manpower, energy, and influence) or deploy troops, using up certain amounts of resources. The troops will be either ground or aerial. This is the basic idea.

Should I add scrolling? Colony and Kingdom both have scrolling, but I've noticed in Kingdom the scrolling really slows down game play. Also what about a story? And should I have three different factions to play as, like in Starcraft and Colony. Plus, any ideas for military units?

Well technoguyx, my black holes project is done and can be viewed here:

(I put your name in the credits.)
Recently I saw a thread about the possibility of using mesh for online games. Should I add online multiplayer? I know there's a possibility of cheating, but in Colony there are a lot of people who hack the game anyway.

Also, there is the problem of spawning the troops. In games like Colony, hundreds of troops can be onscreen at a time. How can I do this with Scratch? Stamping? No, I need something like a "duplicate" block.

Yes it is.
WHICH Colony?
The flash game masterhand7 was inspired by to post this thread. I think there's also another web-based strategy game which isn't an RTS, you might be thinking about that.

Maybe, the only problem would be lag which might cause problem in a real-time strategy game. That last sentence isn't a good excuse IMO

Pretty good use of stamping, but that doesn't solve my problem. Try coming up with units.

Huh, this thread is a bit old. *blows dust off* Any way, I'm back. Any ideas?

Yeah, guess so. I'd love to have people help me with this. However, this thread would have to be moved to Collab.

HINT:
Compile with BYOB to create the EXE file. Most people wouldn't have the expertise to decompile and edit it.

What?
This is a great idea...
I might make a game like this, just with a hundred or so sprites. It would eventually say "unit limit reached" or something....
It would be super laggy though...
