Suggestion; Stricter rules?

I think this place's projects are running down the drain. I understand this place is for young kids and that's exactly why I'm making this topic. First off, I see no rules at all anywhere. I don't see an announcement for the forum's rules, I don't see anything but the rules -- That are common sense -- Being broken. Now reporting and a moderator/whatever you have coming on can fix the problem, but the problem keeps hitting and hitting and sooner or later your moderators are wondering why they're still here, babysitting. Please note that I am a kid myself, I recently got out of 5th grade. Do I feel harsh for putting rules that I know people will slip up on? No. Do I have a problem putting hard Consequences? No. I may be wrong, but doesn't this like all other forums have a warning system? If it does, you may want to take this into account. 1 Warning: Nothing 2 Warnings: week ban. 3 Warnings: Gone For Good. if they don't learn from being told 3 times, or twice for that matter, they have no right being on forums at all.

I have my own website and I know that because it has strict rules and consequences that the moment it gets more active it will shine and have no spam at all. Also, don't let anything slip. If someone spams accidentally, give them a first warning. It'll tell them what spam is so they'll stop. I know that if you add these rules less spam, less everything will come. Here's an example:
Rules.
1) No spamming. if you spam accidentally, you'll get a warning. If it continues or is intentional, you'll be instantly banned for good.
2) No Trolling. No Feeding Trolls. Trolling will be an instant Ban. Feeding trolls will be a warning.
3) No Flaming. Don't insult or swear at others. This will result in an instant ban.
4) N Swearing. Will result in a warn.
The rest you add is up to you, those are the basic rules. I just got back from a long streak of in-activeness, and this place turned as bad as hell.

Re: Suggestion; Stricter rules?

There's already the terms of use, which basically says the same things you just said. you can view them here: http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Terms_of_use also, 1800th post!

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Suggestion; Stricter rules?

You've got me on that, I never saw it when I registered. (D'oh!) I know most rules to most forums by heart.

I have a couple rules you may want to add, though.
- No shouting. Using Nothing but caps is shouting and is rude.
- Check your grammar before posting; like shouting using chat grammar or misspelling everything on purpose will not be tolerated. A typo now and then is fine.

Eh, that's all I got for now.

@Your first point: If a post is made with all caps, only the first letter of each word is kept uppercase.
@Policing grammar that much is rather silly...  hmm

It's not that hard to restrict from DOING THIS! DO YOU SEE HOW ANNOYING THIS IS!?

Don't misspell thing on purpose. Is that hard? It's common sense, honestly, People who tawk laik diss, R idyuts. Itz * and im serprized anee1 gets awae wiff it.
Like I said, not knowing how to spell something and making a typo or two wouldn't be be bad at all.

The problem is, this will do nothing to affect commercial spammers.

I don't agree. There's already the terms of use, and the rules in there are kept extremely well - for instance, you break them, the Scratch team catches you and bans you within a day.

That I completely disagree with.

What if someone speaks another language? What should they do?

What if they don't know english like half of the world? Have you realized that?
Feeding trolls is fine, everyone does it!

This is rubbish, in my opinion.

Just...

Yeah. No offense to mikey or anyone else on this thread. I just think it's a bad idea:

Okay, anybody who talks like that (which is nobody), clearly doesn't know what the letters on a keyboard are for. If people don't understand them, so be it, it's their problem - they chose to type in a fashion where nobody understands them. If they want people to be able to understand them, they wouldn't have said it like that. It's the not the Scratch team's responsibility to make sure everybody understands eachother, it's the people who want to be understood's.

Re: Suggestion; Stricter rules?

Speaking another Language - That's one of the two exceptions I did n't mention. If you speak another language or if you have a mental disease.

People already get banned quickly - so, you're saying this is a bad idea because you guys have people who can ban? Fail.

This topic is rubbish - Wow, that was just being a jerk. Just saying.

I'm looking for serious back-up for what you guys are saying. Prove to me this is a bad idea, all I've seen so far is mindless babbling because you guys don't want stricter rules. Hey, prove me wrong. For all I know you're trying to get me to take the topic down. (Not happening.)

Ok, people that get banned that quickly probably isn't good for a children's site.

And also, it's a person's choice wether or not to type with correct grammar and spelling. 1337 15 /\/07 7|-|47 |34|).

So really, with rules about typing that are that strict, it's harder to just talk normally.

1) No spamming: It's already frowned upon. You spam, people don't look at your projects. Voila. If you're a commercial spammer, telling people to buy birth control drugs, then you do get banned. Already solved.
2) Trolling is already being banned for. Have you not noticed all that stuff down at Inspiration and More?
3) No flaming: See above.
4) You do get banned for swearing.

Why should there be rules on grammar? It helps NO ONE!!! What if a  3rd grader, who was a little behind came one.

Hi their! I fowned out abowt Scratch from frends.

BAN HAMMER
BAD GRAMMAR
A stupid rule I think
A follower would have to have some kind of mental kink

Why should I not be able
To misspell table
What if I don't want to be
Understood like everybody

Why place such a pointless rule
Why ban me, cause I am behind in school
Oh looky here, I wrote a poem, oh looky here
To bad poems don't contain good grammar

I guess I'll be banned
Utterly canned

I'm glad to think that the community will always be kind and helpful, the language will always be a fun and easy way to be introduced into programming, the motto will always be: Imagine, Program, Share - Nomolos

Not really missing anything except for a little common sense. I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone's gonna use your rules. I will have an explanation, but I'm late at this time and will finish the post when I get back

Just what I was waiting for. You seem to make up these rules based on mistakes people accidentally do. That's why they won't work.
From what I saw over the past few months the system goes like this.
1 offense, you get a warning in messages
After 3-4 warnings you get a day ban
Repeat. This time a 3 day ban. Then a week, then 2 weeks then a month, then forever.
However this was only with the very first troll
Right now it's 3 strikes and your out
1 day, 1 week, then forever

That's why we don't need your rules. They already have strict rules
