Some people remix without changing anything on the project...

I've been wondering.... Why are some people remixing projects but not changing anything? When my project, Parachute, got featured,at least 4 out of the 8 people that remixed it only changed the text, or didn't change it at all! I almost always see this happening on popular projects. I was wondering why people do this. Does anybody here know?

they want to take the credit.  Tell a scratch moderator, and they'll delete the copied project for you:)

The moderators only have power in the forums.  wink

The best way to take care of this problem is simply to flag the project and explain the problem. Don't forget to give a link to the original project!  smile

There's a problem. When I flagged one, I got a warning.

Did you clearly state why you flagged it?  hmm  And did you give a link to the original, like Jonathanpb suggested?

A warning for that is odd...

I flagged one once and it was okay... did you give your report clear enough? I mentioned how the project was a copy, gave a link to the original project, and mentioned that it was allowed to flag a project if they didn't give enough credit. Hey, that last bit was probably why.

When Scratchers see a project that they feel doesn't give enough credit, it's best if they politely ask the owner to give credit in the project notes. If after a few days the project owner hasn't done this, flag the project and include a link to the original project in the flag explanation. We'll take it from there.

This does get annoyning. But generally I don't look at my remixes much, so I don't mind. The only reason I'd 'take action' on it, is if it gets on the front page or something, and it doesn't give enough credit.

Re: Some people remix without changing anything on the project...

I flagged the project saying something along the lines of:
"remixing the project without giving credit, while only changing one sprite's costume"

I just got a message giving me a warning... I think. I got a message saying: "We encourage remixing in the Scratch community, since we have seen how remixing can lead to creative, interesting projects. The website includes a "Based on..." link to give credit to the original author -- and we hope that remixers will also give credit in their Project Notes. Overall, we want the Scratch community to be full of creative activity and exciting projects, and remixing helps with that."

You may want to first ask to give credit, before flagging.
