Yay, this is the thread for anyone who treasures their dearest computer!
Tell as story about your first, previous, and current computer! Desktop? Laptop? Groundtop?
What are its features? Specifications? Have you had any WONderful times with your Compy? Share, tell, and imagine in this WONderful thread!
Okay, enough with the cheesy intro.
This is a place for all to tell about their laptops. Post pictures, this that, whatever you want!
My first computer was a Windows 98 computer.
Sadly, I don't remember the model, and I don't have my own picture, but I remember it looked something like this:
I was, shall we say, excited.
The new millennium came. ME. I never got it. Y2K caused worries. Rushing about. The industry grew. And grew. And grew. We were getting more and more advanced - eek! Things are going so fast!
Then came some year. I forget what it was. That was the year I got my first laptop: a Dell Inspiron 1000. The Inspiron was pre-loaded with Windows XP for a while, until I finally discovered Ubuntu. Along the way, I also ran into reinstallations, upgrades, hassles, and more. Here are the out-of-the-box specs:
# Intel Celeron Processor(2.20 GHz)
# 512 MB SDRAM
# 40 GB IDE Hard drive
# CD/DVD type CD-RW/DVD
# Weight-- 6.6 lbs
# Dimensions (W x D x H)-- 13 in x 10.6 in x 1.5 in
# 15 in TFT active matrix Display
# Max resolution 1024 x 768
# Video AGP
# Audio Sound card
# Network adapter
# 56 Kbps Fax/modem
# Battery 1 Lithium ion (check with dealer)
# Battery life 2.5 hours
# Pre-installedMicrosoft Windows XP Home Edition
# Service & support type 90 days warranty
Here's a pic:

Then came some other boring desktops that I don't feel like mentioning and never use. I also have an Inspiron 6000, but I use the 1000 more.
Now it simply comes to what laptop I want now. The 1000's getting old, the 6000 I never really liked, and it's time to crunch some numbers. Or money. I really don't get that phrase. You see, I recently discovered a company called system76. They sell laptops and desktops pre-installed with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. i.e., the god of all operating systems. So I took a look at their laptops, and they have some pretty good computers, keep in mind a budget of 1000 Swiss franc (about $900). Well, they're in dollars, but I can pay in dollars. Hoo yeah.
So I'm looking at these two:
Pangolin Performance
and
Lemur UltraThin
They're pretty tough choices. You'll notice the Lemur has no CD drive. That could be a problem. However, it's much lighter. But then again, it has less options, as you can see below. Fewer ports on the Lemur. Different graphics card. But the Lemur is very sleek. Better webcam on the Pangolin. Choices, choices.
I'm leaning toward the Pangolin. Despite the extra bit of heft and price, it has a lot more features. What do you think? Pangolin or Lemur?
And there's three for Pangolin!
Lemur is still at zero!

I used to have a Win95 computer in my room...
I'd say Pangolin.

In my opinion, Windows has only gotten worse instead of better.
In fact, Mac and Linux are on the rise.

That's why I got rid of XP. 98 was okay, though. But XP wasn't that bad. Not as bad as Vista. I just discovered Ubuntu, which was a whole lot better.
I still want a Mac at some point, though. Not yet. When I have plenty money in the stockpiles I'll go ahead and buy the almost CHF.2200 MacBook Pro. Then I'll have all the laptops I need. Well, no... you never have enough laptops. But I think I might be able to make do with the three below:
Inspiron 1000 can run Windows XP only.
The Pangolin I'll probably dual-boot with Ubuntu and XP.
Mac will be the Mac.
That's good.

Take a look at the system76 site and don't trust me. Compare all the features.
But I'd still say you're probably right.

Yeah, I'm running XP. Compared to XP, Vista is the worst monster Microsoft ever created.
I'll probably switch to Mac or Linux...

Well, if you do, use ubuntu for sheree awesomeness, or kde openSUSE for, in my opinion, the best looking and eisiest windows transition.

How exactly? How does computers make the world a worse place?
Actually imagine in your mind, what the world would be like with no computers.
1. No resources for information
2. No hospitals
3. Hundreds of thousands of people will go out of work
4. Everything would have to be hand written
5. Tones more

1. Oh my god, NO RESOURCES FOR INFORMATION! The Library isn't a resource for information!
2. Hospitals existed before computers
3. Hundreds of thousands of people will go out of work, like now, in the recession
4. Everything would have to be hand written, or written on a typewriter, which is SO HORRIBLE! I CAN'T IMAGINE WORKING TO WRITE!
5. Computers have made you so dumb you misspelled "Tons".
A few corrections

1. WITH OUT COMPUTERS THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY BOOKS PRINTED YOU [insult.]!!!

3. YES, JUST LIKE NOW, BUT 100000000x WORSE
4. YEAH, I KNOW RIGHT. BECAUSE SOME GUYS GONNA WRITE OUT 100000000+ COPIES OF NEWSPAPERS EVERY WEEK.
5. THAT'S NOTHING TO DO COMPUTERS, THATS BECAUSE I FAIL AT SPELLING.

More:
1. Many people express creativity through the computer.
2. It's a great way to connect to people, etc
3. You can laugh:
lol
4. You can share and save media. And edit it, etc.
5. You can have fun.
Sure, being addicted to the computer is bad, but I think the computer is a necessary part of our society today.

Sorry that my above post was off topic!
I own a late-2008 aluminum iMac. It's fast has 4 gigabytes of RAM, has a 3.06 Gigahertz intel CPU, etc.
I could actually open line on it without Scratch crashing!

Many computers can open LINE without them crashing. It's just a matter of "does it run fast?"

Yup.
My computer is designed to run fast. I'm an expert at diagnosing problems... my dad even turns to me sometimes.

Full system scans, system restore, BIOS editing, you name it.
PCWorld magazine helps me with a lot of the tasks, but most I do alone.

That reminds me. Lately, my computer's been acting strangely. Maybe it's the BIOS?

My first PC that I ever used was a Windows 95 computer.
I remember that there was only one glitch in the entire OS...
Then I used a Windows 98 PC at my grandma's house. It had a lot of cool games on it :D
Then came XP! The only problem was that we installed it on our W95 PC, so it was really slow.
And then we got Vista which is a piece of junk!
But now we have a Windows 7 PC. It's epic :D
Sweet memories...
