i have lately been making a game called the last stand. i had alot of hope in this project.
it was basically a top-down zombie game with a perfect menue, level select, and extras. i just created the tutorial level when suddenly it started to lag horribly even in presention mode. at first with all sfx and graphics it was 16 mb. what i heard was scratch only takes in 10 mb or less. so after that i erased all music, sound effects, and png. files. i looked at the file size and it was 0.99 mb..............nothing improved even though i brought it down 15.1 mb!
i dont know what else to do!
can somone please tell me if theres any hope that i can get it to not lag? or do i have to abandon it and start allllllllllllllllllllllllllll over?
thanks

EDIT: gave up made an improved menue and starting on levels as of may 5, 2010

Scratch 1.4 gives me some problems too.

The best thing to do would probably to downsize the project more. You don't have to delete sprites or background to do this. In scratch, Click Edit, Compress Images. You will be able to select how much to compress your sprites and backgrounds. If you are not happy with the compression (graphics get really bad), Don't save your project, but that might be the only way to make it cause less lag. Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Also, you might want to try eradicating longer scripts. Operators take a while to do, too, such as the "join," "length of" and "letter _ of."
Also, keep in mind that scratch is needlessly slow. If need be, click "edit," "set single stepping," and set it to "turbo." It might introduce a few glitches, and it won't work online, but it is relatively fast
