Sorry, but no, I think you shouldn't. They are only useful if you need to call to be picked up, and from what I have heard, you need one for a libraby, but I believe that they would have a phone you could borrow. I have a * phone, and its worked perfectly for me. I only need it to cal for a ride, and check in when I am driving.
You don't need one yet, and it would only be a liability if you did get it.

My sister has the LG Lotus, and she got it when she was in 4th grade.

Can we put this in age terms please. I'm British

I'm in 6th grade, but skipped 5th (I'm 11) and don't have a phone. Nearly everyone at my school does.
My parents' cell is like 5 years old and only makes calls. It doesn't even fold open!

You're a year older than me, and now you know how I feel.
I really do need one. Today I walked to the library a different way, and I wanted to confirm with my mom if it was Ok (Since I was walking by a road with lots of cars, I was concerned she'd be worried.) Also I'd like to ask her if I could go to a neighborhood store for kids like me, they have slushies there. I really want a phone SO bad but I think I'm getting one SOON because my grandmother is great at phones! (
) She loves to buy us stuff, and she pays for all the phone bills. I have a friend that walks with me, and she has a phone and calls her parents as soon as we get out of school.
She showed me the LG Lotus, and now I love it soooooo much! Okay, this post is getting absurdly long, so I think I'll cut it short here.

I think your way to young. As a matter of a fact in reality, I think any age is to young for a phone. Especially when you are going to school. Phone's are only mere distractions from learning.

Unless you need a way of contacting your parents in places where phones are not found, you don't need one. But either way, you don't want one.
As I said before, I really wanted a phone at a young age. Then I got one, but just so I could talk to my parents in emergencies. Even with this limitation, I still felt spoiled and stupid.
Plus they can supposedly cause brain cancer (radiation + brain = dead brain).

You might have, but at least I don't want a phone that costs like 100$. With the rebate and everything it costs 30 bucks. I didn't know PHONES cause brain cancer!
but really, I think I'm gonna get a phone anyway, because my grandmother has always wanted me to have one. And she'll get me one, I know it!
Maybe not, though.... most likely I'm gonna get it in mid-5th grade.

Well, it would take a very long time on the phone for that to happen.
More info here
But anyway, if you really need one (like need-need, not want-need), you should get one. It's your parents (and your) choice. But I'd suggest waiting a bit.
Happy choices. I know that I can't make one.

My advice: Don't get a phone
I had a 250$ one once then someone broke into my locker and stole it
And the phone company wouldn't insure it or refund.
And chances are you won't use it so it'll just be eating away at your parent's money.

Im almost certain Year 2 in the UK is like 1st Grade in the US, Year 3 is 2nd Grade, etc.
I got that from calculating ages with grades/years

I don't see the point.
I don't really want a phone, and iphone apps are basically worse versions of flash games...

I got my mobile when I was 12 and 3/4... Which is still way too young, in my opinion... but I was going to France with my school, and my parents wanted a way to contact me... So they made me get a mobile... I knew I'd never use it, so I chose the cheapest one in the shop...
I haven't used it since a week after I bought it, so I was right there... I felt really guilty when I got it... I knew about the brain damage possibilities, so I only ever used it to text my mum when I got over the border into France... Texting doesn't do so much damage, as the phone is further away...
But I'd conclude:
There's no point, unless you go to unfamiliar places without your parents a lot, or your parents want to contact you for any reason. If so, go for the cheapest phone possible...

Got mine in 6th class (irish school) when i was 12.
It cost me €300 nut my parents paid for half, and i used the other half out of my confirmation money.
I use it a lot mostly to text tho, and i pay for credit out of my own money.
Everyone in my class had one and most of the year below me as well.
If any of you are wondering this is my phone:
