A good amount of games out there are just "Spend 10 minutes loading a music file, watch a stick figure dance", "plzz love it" or "Remix this".
I'm not saying all of them are like this, but just looking at the Newest Projects page gives you a bad feel for Scratch.
I'm against "Remix this" projects, and one project where people randomly add on to it would go terrible. We need organization before we start.
So, if we as a community were going to make a game, what genre should it be?
I suggest one of the following;
Point and Click - First person scenes
Puzzle - Third person
Exploration RPG -First person maze type game, battles turn based
Bullet Heck? - Player tries to keep mouse (etc) away from objects flying everywhere
Of course these aren't the only options, but in my opinion the best to choose from.
I'm hoping this'll get some support, if you comment please pick a preferred genre. That alone would be contributing.
Also, rules for this thread. I can't enforce them, but this is all just basic etiquette.
- If you can, please try to spell out words.
- Don't devour other members
- Follow normal forum rules
Easy enough?

I had a feeling something community based wouldn't work here, but it has to die so early?

Well you say community based, but don't even mention the mixing of all types of Scratchers.

I agree with soup. Most projects dont require any coding at all. Just some lame "Add yourself" project.
