What happened to my topic?

Please explain.

I just got a message from Scratch Team that I posted a topic causing arguing?

I specifically said in the topic that "If this topic will be flaming, I will delete it". "If it is flamebait, I will delete it". "Mods, I know you will close it, keep it because I am trying to deliver a message."

I named the topic "Hold it right there! Why the arguing?"

I guess it's my confession eh?

I said it "wasn't to stir things up". It was my point of view. That's it.

In the last line I said:

No offense intended for the artists

Why?

Why?

WHAT HAPPENED?

I was away and it's gone with this message.

Excuse me?

If it becomes a flame war, I will delete it.

Re: What happened to my topic?

I don't know.  It seems like a bunch of people are getting worked up by these flame wars.  So many famous Scratchers have been banned for being in these fights!  Maybe the Mods didn't want to take any chances with your topic.

Re: What happened to my topic?

While the topic you mentioned might have been fine in calmer days, it seemed like it was very likely to burst into flames, considering how much that's been going on lately. We appreciate that you said it was just your opinion; it just seems like the timing wasn't the greatest.  hmm

I was unplugged from the internet for most of this weekend on a camping trip. But looking at things afterwards, it seems as though a lot of Scratchers - (not you in particularly greatdane) - started to feel that their opinions about what is or isn't a valuable Scratch project should determine what should appear on the Scratch website.  That's really not the case. It's fine to have preferences about what you like or dislike, and it's even ok to discuss these preferences respectfully.  But individual preferences won't change the fact that Scratch is and always will be free and available for any kind of respectful creative expression.

No one has to like all the things that can be made with Scratch. But they do have to be respectful of other's right to make stuff that they like.

But it seems like a lot of this arguing is over the front page. Is there a way to make more front pages that would allow Scratchers who like a particular kind of project to see and talk about the kinds of projects they like?

Fighting about the front page is not an easy problem, and won't have an easy solution. We hope Scratchers will help think about better ways to solve the problem - not just for themselves, but for everyone who uses Scratch.
