Commenting/On Projects

I was wondering how to restore the comment block to the current version of scratch (1.2.1)?

Re: Commenting/On Projects

The only way to restore the comment block to the current version is to convince the Scratch development team to put it back in there.  I've tried begging and pleading to no avail.  I'm considering bribery but I'm not sure who to bribe.

It's certainly good for that purpose...but we really need it to help instruct less experienced Scratchers in demonstration projects.  It's been months now and we are still without a decent way to comment the code.  It defies understanding and depresses me greatly.

I really would like the comment block back! It'd make things a lot easier to understand!

Re: Commenting/On Projects

I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really think the comment block is a necessity, since most or all of my variables and sprites are named weird things, and have strange purposes. For example, in my Tower defense game, my variables were like "IT1S". This meant Ice tower 1 state. In my project "memory", all my block sprites are named "block____r____" which makes sense in a way, block whatever the position it is row whatever. I think that the comment block should be put back in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Commenting/On Projects

Hey everyone-

We appreciate your suggestions and are always looking for feedback from the community.

You'll all be happy to know that a few team members are currently working on new ways to re-implement the comment blocks.  It seems many of you agree comments are helpful, and it is our job to find the best way to implement these for the varied community we support.

We are planning a new release later this summer, if we can get comment blocks available for this release, we will be sure to alert everyone...stay tuned!!

Like a whole new release of scratch? I hope so, although I am working on 2 real big projects on 1.2.1. I think the comment blocks would be good, because when I look at someones code to make one of my projects basd off of, I get very, very confused.

BTW, meltreat, can you look at the topic here? http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5760 I know you were on last I saw. Thanks.

Wait, a new version of Scratch, or just adding the comments block?

Yeah, they'd probably just release 1.2.1.5 or something (1.2.2?)

Are you allowed to say when such a release will be released or what these new features might be?  cool

I've been trying to figure out some of archmages advanced techniques and yours too Paddle2See but there isn't A comment block so I can't understand it. You could use a <say[ Comment ]for( 0 )secs>  block (I think). I think blackmail would work better then bribery. If we all sent e-mails to the scratch team at once they might put it in the new version of scratch.
