all the 2D video game characters you'll ever need! here!
I have recently found some huge sprite resource pages through the credits of episode 6 in super mario bros. Z (anime series, in newgrounds) these are several web pages with tons of sprites including everything from the original super mario bros.!
the amount is amzing!
shyguy kingdom (probably the best page)

mario fan games galaxy (OKish, but contains some hard-to-find sounds)

all of these web pages contain stuff from other video games, even stuff like megaman!
