"Scratch Modifications" forum.

Since my last visit, 14 topics in the "Advanced Topics" forum have been posted in.

10 of these are related to BYOB and other Scratch modifications. When I go to the Advanced Topics forum, I don't look for information on Scratch mods, because I don't care about them. Everybody's trying to make one, trying for theirs to be the "ultimate." It would be particularly nice for a Scratch mods forum. It would also be nice for those who are into Scratch mods to not have to go through any other advanced-topic related topics, and just see the mods.

It could also benefit the community as a whole in that, as Coka pointed out, it encourages people to program their own versions of Scratch, helping them pursue careers in the computer industry.

I support. I'd go on the Advanced Topics forum more if it wasn't all about making mods and adding blocks.

I'd support - but that forum would be rather empty and would lose interest.  hmm

The thing is, everything else that you didn't mention, belongs in All About Scratch!

I don't think we need a Scratch Mods forum. There's already enough forums in the Scratch Forums, and Scratch Mods is basically what "Advanced" is, in relation to Scratch.

Then what was the Advanced Topics forum before the whole Scratch Mods fad? We've both been around long enough to know that Advanced Topics wasn't always about Scratch Mods.

Yes - but also, incase you didn't notice, before Scratch Mods, people (especially new users) would post in this forum of different things that they thought was "advanced", yet really weren't, so before the forum was a bunch of spam. Now, although the forum may not necessarily attract your interests, it's still better than what was before.

Thou shalt note that underneath the forum link, it says "Talk about technical aspects or advanced features." If I prove to be correct, never does it mention modifying Scratch. "Technical aspects" may be confused as such, but as I think of it, it means more like deciphering the source code than adding upon it. I'm also not saying that the Mods don't belong there, but they shouldn't be all [75%] of what that forum is.

And therefore, we must beg the question: What does belong in Advanced topics?

Re: "Scratch Modifications" forum.

This is an idea that I support. Many scratchers are making their way beyond what scratch offers, so they take Scratch and make some mods. I think this is great for those who want to do something like this as a profession when they are older. Since BYOB (Build your own Blocks) and Scratch Modifications are becoming more and more popular, there may be some use in adding a forum for this. I agree!  wink

Well, Here's A List Of Things That Belong In The Advanced Topics:

1. Scratch Mods. (Hey! They're ADVANCED. Doesn't Anyone Get That!?!?)
2. Hacked Block Code
3. Number One And Two.  mad

i support. practically every topic says: "Panther is going to beat your mod. As soon as it comes out." I want to see lots of new block hacks instead of why panther is going to beat all. not saying that it isn't going to beat all.)

Re: "Scratch Modifications" forum.

I agree. Modding would be better off in a dedicated section.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: "Scratch Modifications" forum.

I disagree. "Advanced Topics" is for discussing "technical aspects", and the advanced features of Scratch.

The Source code of scratch is definately considered a technical aspect.

You have my support. There are also many topics about how to make Scratch mods, it would be nice to have them categorized.
