Personalized Statistics

Hi Scratchers!

I'm Rita and I've been working with the Scratch Team to bring you statistics about Scratch usage.  We've recently launched http://stats.scratch.mit.edu to display statistics about the Scratch community as a whole.  Now I want to work on personalized statistics for each of you - to help you see how you're interacting with the community and using Scratch.  Here's a start:  http://stats.scratch.mit.edu/personal/trackstats.html .  Feel free to try it out and use the forms on the pages to let me know what you think so that I can keep working on making it better.   smile

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Re: Personalized Statistics

It looks really nice. I like how I the graphs and charts summarize my use of blocks as well as my activity on the Scratch website.

(speaking of which, I just noticed that the comment I receive is greater than the comments I make myself!  yikes  And I wonder what caused me to become so active in September of 2009...)

I do have one concern, though - the statistics page can be used to search up anyone's website activity, and some Scratchers may not want their statistics to be revealed publicly. Maybe there should be the option to have Scratchers decide whether or not they can have their data searched up by other users?

How is that a privacy concern?

Someone might be super paranoid about people knowing what they do.  tongue

Or, they are embarrassed because they are un-popular or something.  neutral

I was thinking more on a bit of an obsession about people wanting certain users being tracked down because they haven't been active in a while.

On deviantART, there have been cases of people becoming a bit too obsessed with certain users not commenting on their art works, so they sometimes go over to the user page to see if the user has been on recently, if he/she was commenting lately, etc. It's possible that something similar could happen with the statistics on Scratch, with users searching up commenting behaviors if they feel a friend might be ignoring them, which can sometimes lead to some undesired arguments going around.  hmm

Re: Personalized Statistics

Maybe you wouldn't have to enter in your username, it can just see who's logged in? And that way no one could see anyone else's statistics.
