I'm just noticing that more than half of the characters drawn in anime-style have eyes that are horribly large. So large in fact, that they nearly take up half of the face xD Is this some kind of new style, or are they just bad drawings?

While anime is supposed to have big eyes, once they pass about 1/4 they're too big for me.

I don't know, I think it's fine. They are maybe just learning the style. The eyes are supposed to be smaller than most people draw them, though.

What I think is a good size for anime eyes is the size shown on my lip syncing test.

I just measured, and apparently, that are not oversized eyes. They are actually in good proportion to each other. (Well, they probably are large, but that means the ears are large too).
The real cause of the problem is the head
They are too big

That's not anime. Its manga. Manga characters have huge eyes and large heads. I like to draw anime. Its fun, but difficult. big_smile

Anime and manga are basically the same thing! The only real difference is than one is animation and one is comics.

While there is a general guideline when it comes to anime/manga style eyes, there's no exact science - in fact, eye styles often have several abstractions so some may critique one style as being proportionate and another will not.

Well I have seen a strange style similar to the way the PowerPuff Girls are drawn, only with an anime coloring style for the eyes. Deviating from the typical proportion-based norm of anime/manga style is relatively new, it could be a new style. hmm

With the internet, lines sometimes get crossed - one may see something as a joke, another as an insult, which can lead to flare-ups in the forums (and I'm pretty sure we don't want that now, do we? tongue )
