Hi,
As you probably already noticed, the Scratch Forums home page is getting quite filled up. There are lots of different forums and it can be a really tough job to find your way through all of them
We mods and admins have been discussing a bit, and here are some changes we were thinking about. Please tell us what you think about them, but please also share *why* you like or dislike them...
• Remove the Archived Forums section. It's taking up quite some space, and I personally think they aren't read anymore. They might still contains some valuable information, so maybe we could just hide them by default.
• Only show the 'language' forum of your language. We could make it work with the language used on the main site (requires a lot of work and has disadvantages for multilingual people). Or maybe you'll have to request permission for your language forum. Or, maybe we won't do this at all
• Hide the forum statistics box. That's the one that has all online users in it... We have the feeling that it helps you with chatting And it takes up space. Forums are made for a slower form of discussion, and the Scratch forums have been suffering from a lot of chat messages... There are other tools available for that.

1 i think maybe that should be kept because it is quite nice to think i could make a difference by proposing an idea (what i meant is a few of those threads ask you for ideas!)
2 maybe the language could be the home and it could lead into that country's forums?
3 i never noticed it XD

I remember this talk.
The archived 'TBG' and 'Inspiration and More' are probably the least needed in this forum. I think 'Inspiration and More' can be deleted completely; TBG topics can be removed but not the TBG forum itself so that the message about TBGs being moved will be able to be seen. I'm a bit wary about deleting the other archived forums because they may contain valuable info for educators and those interested about Scratch-related events (so maybe these can be hidden by default, but still easily accessible).
The language thing has been an issue for some time. I certainly would like it if feasible.
I support hiding the statistics box - besides, there's already an online indicator for every comment that tells us if a certain user is online or not.

i know that this wouldn't really go with scratch but on the left and right there is masses of space maybe there could be two columns?
that way we use the space more efficiently
i don't know why i came up with this i was trying to think outside the blue (ish) box...

I think, if possible, you should make it possible to rearrange the order of the list of forums so you could have the ones you check at the top and the ones you ignore at the bottom.

1. Hide it, but let it still be accessed.
2. What about the multilingual?
3. Don't like the idea.

But I&M had some threads that had information like requests and lists and stuff that could of taken an hour to write!

For the Archived forums - they're not neccessary, but I wouldn't want them to be deleted.
For the Language forums - I'm not sure... I'm fine either way.
For the stats - the stats were nice, but we don't need the list of people online...

Yes, yes, and NO.
NO NO NO NO NO.

1. The TBG isn't necessary - who wants to keep its posts? Who'll be reading them? But I agree that the notice should be kept... otherwise the new TBG would die.
Inspiration and More can be deleted - all the wanted threads gave been moved, and the rest are about dead goldfish, broken bikes, outdated vacation announcements, and so on.
Educators and Scratch Day 2009 are fine in my opinion. They have some good history in them.
2. Sure... that would help a lot. But what about the Other Languages and Translating Scratch forums?
3. Sure! I'll miss it; it helped me know when it was a nice, active time. But chatting is a problem - so remove it!

All the wanted threads have been moved to Miscellaneous. The rest aren't very important - do you go around looking at old, silly threads?

Oppose All
1. Removing the Archived Forums is like removing the history of a wiki page (all of the changes and contributions) - it's just something you don't do. Although the old forums may not come in handy extremely often - it does have importance.
2. I think that's pretty pointless. I seriously think there's no point to it. Just for the sake of space is no reason to remove it.
3. "We have the feeling that it helps you with chatting " - uhh... no. Not many people really look at that it that much. And just knowing who is online - doesn't really help you chat that much. The only think that makes you chat more is the actual threads. Plus its nice to know how many threads, posts, and users there are, just like how it shows the number of users, projects, and galleries and such on the Scratch front page.
Why is there not enough space? I'll tell ya - if you look at the Stencyl private beta testing forums (you remember the discussion about that, right?), there is a lots of sections - but that doesn't slow anything down So there's really no point to doing any of these things.

An addition to my 3rd oppose - Look at cruelty247's post. He/she (sorry) doesn't even notice it! So how can it lead to increased chatting?

Why not?
Because it's helpful at times.
Lol - somebody really can't elaborate on anything XD

Maybe it wouldn't be useful for every-day purposes - but it's like history on a wiki - it's all kept, for reference. And - it's available to everybody, at all times, for all purposes. I was just using it the other day when Blade was linking to one of his old TBG posts on the other TBG forums, so I could see why he was banned.

Were you agreeing with the topic post or Lucario?

I'M SO MADDDDDDD!!!!
I entered Miscellaneous, and there were rubbish spam threads, threads saying to jump out a window, agh - deleting Miscellaneous would help so much more.
I nearly exploded with frustration. >_>
