Yeah... we don't NEED "Make a circle, pass it on" dominating every single page. Remixing these projects and bragging about it shows that you have no programming skills. And it's still a BIG WASTE OF TIME!!! Reason? You could be trying to make the frontpage in ANOTHER way!!! Doody's pen project is NOT the best pen on Scratch...
I guess I disagree with you here. Everybody scratches in their own way. The remix games help build a sense of community and encourage people to download and look at other people's scripts - which is a great way to learn!
Also, I take exception to the remark in your signature. Front page positions simply show a snapshot of how people are viewing and reacting to projects in the recent past - they are never a measure of intrinsic quality (a possible exception is the Featured category). Why would you single out one person's project for this remark? How do you think that makes them feel?
Well it depends which "remix games" your talking about. If its a remix pass it on, then 99.997284 of them are just making a picture, writing your name, AND JUST DUPLICATING A SPRITE AND DRAWING AN ICKIFUL DRAWING! Well just get rid of the ickiful part for now. But scratch isn't about just making good pictures. However MyRedNeptune and Boopaloo are different, they are usually request and used in ACTUAL GAMES.

Even the people who remix those projects can take requests for actual games and do all that. And I don't think "ickiful" describes everything people make. You can make something that's great (or OK-ish) in a remix-and-pass-it-on project... and then once you're done that, just make a game or "normal" project.

Ok...I over did the ickiful part. I'm wrong with that...can some people TRY, at least not to make to many, like no more than 2 per person?

Do you have the same opinion about projects such as Scratch Yearbook 08-09 and Book of Scratch Users which tell some information about users (not just an "ickiful" drawing)?

Lately, there has been too many project like "Light the Candle" where people just remix by putting adding there name, or something like that. I think that is not the point of remixing. I think its about using others projects as inspiration, and to build off of it, and stuff. What do you think we shall do?
Thats the point.

Scratch is for kids, seriously.
When they remix those projects they feel like part of a community that supports them and their interests. It's just a game, like any other game kids play when they are in a group. Let the children have fun.

No, actually! That's why the remix function is even there!

If you have a REASON to remix, then by all means, do it.
However, I think a "Scratch Yearbook" would have more potential in the forums.
I usually remix projects, learn the code, and start again and make it better.
For example:
LampLighter 1000 used to be based on ericr's Marble Racer, but come version 2000, I started from scratch and made it better.
Pong was based on the included Pong game until version 6.0, when I did a rewrite.

Not really, its just most of the remix pass-it-on projects are very plain and unhelpful. But honestly if its original and has enough creativity then I think its ok. I mean at the Scratch Meetup Lightnin noticed me and we met, and he was saying what about making a remix pass-it-on project where you add people like listening to a jukebox, and by adding more people it will be like a bigger party. I mean in there you take a picture of yourself in a cool pose, and maybe make yourself saying something funny, or something. So that, is a good idea.

Or maybe if you add a sentence to a story... actually, I'm going to do that! To the program!!!

FINALY SOME PEOPLE THAT AGREE WITH ME! this is the best forum post I've seen yet.

okay, me AND Kirby agree(which is weird because we usually don't agree...) that remix ARE GOOD. 1. for new Scratchers, it helps them with starting to work with the programing. it also gives them inspiration. 2. to some people, like us, We think their funny/cool/pleasingly scary/etc. 3.In some, it lets you show off your cool sprites (if you have some) or drawings, and other people can use them in their projects! 4. so, the most remixed projects will have a lot of stuff to use, right? well people could use those things to make games/shows/etc.!
So, as you can see, we think that remix good. now that you made me get to the point, we think they're GREAT!!!!

I agree with this topic now... the 2008 me didn't, apparently.
This thread is old, it should be closed.

Although, I do believe that some "pass-it-on" projects are constructive. I saw a top remixed that was indeed, a "pass-it-on" project, but yet, it taught me how to make a scroll down function and all kinds of good stuff.

I agree. Most "pass it on" projects are pointless and a waste of server space(especially ones with 9.9MB songs in them). However, not all are bad. I participated in one called "team platformer". Someone made a bad glitchy platformer. It gets remixed, some glitches fixed, levels added, etc, and the game gets better and better. On the other hand, most remix chains are like this:
ADD URSELF DOING ____! [1][1][1][1]
Those kinds of things need to be flaggable.
