Scared to post this, be brave Kenji . . .

I think I may be banned for thinking this, but the rules are a little strict . . . I'm not suggesting any changes, I just think scratch is way too good for these harsh laws . . . I mean, no political & religious views? And no CONSPIRACY THEORIES? Huh? Why do we need those rules? I mean, they're extremely specific to one situation. Why worry about  one situation?

True, they remove non-harmful words from my posts.

Like "pussy" or "freaking"

Considering their alternatives, I think they should just tell me to change it.

Re: Scared to post this, be brave Kenji . . .

I was more wondering about why those guidelines for using the misc forum are there. They sound so specific. If they want to worry about one situation they're called paranoid.
Or maybe I'm paranoid for saying "they" so much!  smile

There's nothing wrong for questioning Scratch's forum policies - criticisms about moderation policy in general are fine so long as they are reasonable and respectful.  smile

You're relatively new, so you were not here back when 'Miscellaneous' was a serious problem and severely difficult to moderate. The most troublesome were threads concerning religious topics, political issues, and conspiracy theories because they took the greatest amount of time and energy to moderate.

The situation got pretty terrible, and there was a point where closing or moving 'Miscellaneous' was considered - us moderators are volunteers; in reality, we shouldn't really be moderating stuff like 'Miscellaneous' drama when we're really interested in helping others with Scratch and other Scratch-related discussions.

Rather than closing down 'Miscellaneous' the Scratch Team decided to let it stay and set up the current guidelines you see today.

I believe that is everything in a nutshell  tongue

Re: Scared to post this, be brave Kenji . . .

But couldn't you just ban 'em all? Or at least the most troublesome?
And you could change it to "No sick & ridiculous drama that we don't have time for", because the ones you put up are really unsettlingly specific.

The Scratch Team does block users depending on the situation.

As for the policy "No sick & ridiculous drama that we don't have time for":
The current Miscellaneous guidelines state

Don't create topics that have a strong likelihood of creating arguments (i.e. Trolling). This includes topics about religion, politics, conspiracy theories, etc.

The first statement covers a policy similar to the one you've described. The topics following afterwards are just examples - they are the ones stated as examples because those were the ones that were problematic some two months ago. Although, from your suggestion, perhaps you are suggesting that the Scratch Team should include "unwanted drama" aside from the other three examples listed above to be more inclusive?

The Scratch Team does block users depending on the situation.

For example, Blade-Edge and parr0t were banned from the forums for excessive cursing in a religious thread.

Blade did NOT get banned from swearing, all he did was say something about shooting someone in the kneecap.

We're going a bit crazy with coming up with the reasons for Blade-Edge's block, ne?  tongue
I believe that the issue of Blade-Edge's block is a matter between Blade-Edge and the Scratch Team. (The same goes for any user who was blocked. Blocked users can always contact the Scratch Team to discuss the situation).

I know what it means, and I'm pretty sure you know how young I am. But I don't think it should be removed if not used in a bad way. But putting "[removed" makes it seem like a more harsh, innapropriate word when the word just has an alternate meaning. Asking to change it would make it better than removing the rest of the sentance(by deleting/back spacing it all), or putting removed there!

There is some problems with asking and waiting for Scratchers to change their wording instead of removing it entirely. Being that this website is open to people of all ages and backgrounds, it's important to keep in mind that while some may view certain terminology and phrases as not being harsh, others may think differently - if a comment is flagged for using questionable language, usually the safer route is to remove the potentially offensive part because the longer something is left on the site, the more potential damage could be done.

Understandably, there are people of all different backgrounds and communities here, and perhaps one may not at first understand why his/her is edited out when it might be fairly acceptable in the community where he/she are from - in such cases, you can always contact the Scratch Team about any questions you may have about an edit.  smile

I appreciate that we at least have some rules and that we are not in a living anarchy. But, the point is scratch is not for all of those things you have mentioned. Other websites suit those jobs much better.
