I would use that feature if I make a thread like one of the following:
• Wow, 500000 users!
• Wow, 1000000 projects!
• How do I ______ (once I know how, the thread is rather pointless)
• A Show and Tell advertisement (I don't see a point in keeping the thread once it's buried... it won't take long anyway)

Those events... yes... So a feature for the owner of the thread to close his threads when he wants to? Insted of the owner having to go and get a mod to do it for them?

I would be fine with thread deletion in those cases, though...
A thought: What if I assume that the thread is unimportant and say that I want the thread deleted later - but it becomes important?

Then you would need a little thing which allows you to change the deletion date.
